Search Nursing Jobs in TennesseeNursing Jobs in Tennessee: Frequently Asked Questions
Which companies sponsor visas for nurses in Tennessee?
The largest visa-sponsoring employers for nurses in Tennessee include Vanderbilt University Medical Center, HCA Healthcare (headquartered in Nashville), Saint Thomas Health, Methodist Le Bonheur Healthcare in Memphis, and Ballad Health in the Tri-Cities region. Large health systems and academic medical centers are generally the most active sponsors because they have dedicated HR and legal resources to manage the sponsorship process.
Which visa types are most common for nursing roles in Tennessee?
The EB-3 immigrant visa (employment-based, third preference) is the most common long-term pathway for internationally trained nurses in Tennessee, as it allows employers to sponsor registered nurses for permanent residence through the PERM labor certification process. The H-1B nonimmigrant visa applies to registered nurses in specialty roles where a bachelor's degree in nursing is a standard requirement. Some nurses also enter on TN visa status if they hold Canadian or Mexican citizenship.
Which cities in Tennessee have the most nursing sponsorship jobs?
Nashville has the highest concentration of nursing sponsorship opportunities, anchored by Vanderbilt University Medical Center and the HCA Healthcare network. Memphis is the second-largest market, with Methodist Le Bonheur Healthcare and Regional One Health among active employers. Knoxville, home to the University of Tennessee Medical Center, and the Tri-Cities area served by Ballad Health also generate consistent international nursing hiring activity.
How to find nursing visa sponsorship jobs in Tennessee?
Migrate Mate is built specifically for international nurses and other foreign-trained professionals seeking visa sponsorship in the U.S. You can filter jobs by state to browse Tennessee nursing roles where employers have an active history of sponsoring work visas. This is more efficient than general job searching because listings are curated for candidates who need sponsorship, saving time on applications to employers unlikely to support the process.
Are there state-specific considerations for nurses seeking sponsorship in Tennessee?
Tennessee is a Nurse Licensure Compact (NLC) state, meaning nurses who hold a multistate license issued by another compact state can practice in Tennessee without obtaining a separate Tennessee license. International nurses, however, must apply for initial licensure through the Tennessee Board of Nursing and will need a credentials evaluation from an organization such as CGFNS before eligibility is established. Employers typically require an active Tennessee RN license before sponsorship paperwork begins.
What is the prevailing wage for sponsored nursing jobs in Tennessee?
U.S. employers sponsoring a visa must pay at least the prevailing wage, which is what workers in the same role, area, and experience level typically earn. The Department of Labor sets this rate to make sure companies aren't hiring foreign workers simply because they'd accept lower pay than a U.S. worker. It varies by job title, location, and experience. You can look up current prevailing wage rates for any occupation and location using the OFLC Wage Search page.
