Search Nursing Jobs in MichiganNursing Jobs in Michigan: Frequently Asked Questions
Which visa types are most common for nursing roles in Michigan?
The H-1B visa and EB-3 are the two most common pathways for internationally trained nurses in Michigan. The H-1B applies to registered nurses in specialty roles that require at least a bachelor's degree in nursing. The EB-3 immigrant visa is widely used for RNs pursuing permanent residence through employer sponsorship, often paired with a PERM labor certification filed by the hiring health system.
Which companies sponsor visas for nurses in Michigan?
Michigan's largest health systems are the most active visa sponsors for nursing roles. Corewell Health, Henry Ford Health, University of Michigan Health System, Ascension Michigan, and McLaren Health Care have all sponsored international nursing staff. Staffing agencies that partner with these systems also occasionally facilitate sponsorship for contract-to-permanent nursing placements across the state.
Which cities in Michigan have the most nursing sponsorship jobs?
Detroit and its Metro area lead the state for nursing sponsorship volume, driven by the concentration of large hospital networks and specialty medical centers. Grand Rapids is a secondary hub, anchored by Corewell Health's headquarters. Ann Arbor is particularly active for advanced practice and specialty nursing roles tied to the University of Michigan Health System and Michigan Medicine.
How to find nursing visa sponsorship jobs in Michigan?
Migrate Mate is built specifically for international nurses and other healthcare professionals seeking visa sponsorship in the U.S. You can filter directly by state and role to surface Michigan nursing positions at employers with documented sponsorship history. This saves significant time compared to manually reviewing job postings that rarely disclose sponsorship availability upfront.
Are there state-specific considerations for nurses seeking visa sponsorship in Michigan?
Michigan requires internationally trained nurses to obtain state licensure through the Michigan Board of Nursing, which includes verification of credentials through a service such as CGFNS. Nurses educated outside the U.S. should begin the licensure process early, as credential evaluation timelines can add months before a sponsored employer can file an immigration petition. Michigan does not participate in the Nurse Licensure Compact, so licensure is state-specific.
What is the prevailing wage for sponsored nursing jobs in Michigan?
U.S. employers sponsoring a visa must pay at least the prevailing wage, which is what workers in the same role, area, and experience level typically earn. The Department of Labor sets this rate to make sure companies aren't hiring foreign workers simply because they'd accept lower pay than a U.S. worker. It varies by job title, location, and experience. You can look up current prevailing wage rates for any occupation and location using the OFLC Wage Search page.
