Which companies sponsor visas for nurses in Minnesota?
The largest sponsors in Minnesota include Mayo Clinic in Rochester, M Health Fairview, Allina Health, and HealthPartners in the Twin Cities metro. Essentia Health in Duluth and several rural critical access hospitals have also sponsored international nurses through staffing agencies or direct-hire programs. Sponsorship activity is most consistent at large health systems with dedicated international recruitment teams.
Which visa types are most common for nursing roles in Minnesota?
Most international nurses sponsored in Minnesota come through the EB-3 employment-based immigrant visa, which requires employer sponsorship, a PERM labor certification, and an approved I-140 petition. Registered Nurses may also enter temporarily on an H-1B if the role qualifies as a specialty occupation, though this is less common in nursing than in other healthcare fields. Some facilities use the H-1C for shortage areas, though that category has limited availability.
Which cities in Minnesota have the most nursing sponsorship jobs?
The Twin Cities metro, covering Minneapolis and St. Paul, concentrates the highest volume of nursing sponsorship opportunities given the density of major health systems headquartered there. Rochester is a significant secondary market due to Mayo Clinic's scale. Duluth, St. Cloud, and several outstate communities with critical access hospitals also post sponsorship-eligible nursing roles, particularly for specialties facing acute shortages.
How to find nursing visa sponsorship jobs in Minnesota?
Migrate Mate is a job board built specifically for international candidates seeking visa sponsorship in the United States. You can filter by state and role to surface nursing positions in Minnesota where employers have indicated sponsorship availability. Because Minnesota's sponsorship activity is spread across large health systems and smaller regional hospitals, using a focused platform like Migrate Mate reduces the time spent filtering out non-sponsoring employers.
Are there any state-specific considerations for international nurses pursuing sponsorship in Minnesota?
Minnesota requires internationally educated nurses to obtain a state nursing license through the Minnesota Board of Nursing, which includes credential evaluation and passing the NCLEX-RN. Minnesota is not part of the Nurse Licensure Compact, so a license from another compact state does not automatically apply here. Employers initiating EB-3 sponsorship must also complete a PERM labor certification demonstrating that no qualified U.S. workers were available for the position.
What is the prevailing wage for sponsored nursing jobs in Minnesota?
U.S. employers sponsoring a visa must pay at least the prevailing wage, which is what workers in the same role, area, and experience level typically earn. The Department of Labor sets this rate to make sure companies aren't hiring foreign workers simply because they'd accept lower pay than a U.S. worker. It varies by job title, location, and experience. You can look up current prevailing wage rates for any occupation and location using the OFLC Wage Search page.
