Which companies sponsor visas for nurses in North Carolina?
Duke Health, UNC Health, Atrium Health, Novant Health, and WakeMed are among the largest nursing employers in North Carolina with documented histories of international hiring. Many also work with staffing agencies that facilitate the visa sponsorship process for registered nurses and advanced practice nurses filling long-term or permanent positions.
Which visa types are most common for nursing roles in North Carolina?
Most international nurses entering North Carolina do so on an EB-3 immigrant visa through employer-sponsored PERM labor certification, which leads to a green card. The H-1B visa is used for advanced practice nursing roles that qualify as specialty occupations, such as nurse practitioners and clinical nurse specialists. Temporary staffing arrangements may also involve the TN visa for Canadian and Mexican nurses.
Which cities in North Carolina have the most nursing sponsorship jobs?
The Research Triangle (Raleigh, Durham, Chapel Hill) has the highest concentration of nursing sponsorship opportunities, anchored by UNC Health and Duke Health. Charlotte is a close second, driven by Atrium Health and Novant Health's large regional networks. Greensboro, Winston-Salem, and Wilmington also have active hospital hiring, particularly for med-surg and critical care nurses.
How to find nursing visa sponsorship jobs in North Carolina?
Migrate Mate is a job board built specifically for international candidates seeking visa sponsorship, with nursing roles in North Carolina filterable by location and visa type. Rather than sorting through general job listings where sponsorship status is often unlisted, Migrate Mate surfaces roles where employers have indicated willingness to sponsor, saving significant time for internationally trained nurses navigating the U.S. job market.
Are there any state-specific considerations for nurses seeking sponsorship in North Carolina?
North Carolina participates in the Nurse Licensure Compact (NLC), meaning nurses with a multistate license from another compact state can practice without obtaining a separate NC license. International nurses must still pass the NCLEX and meet state Board of Nursing requirements before beginning employment. NC also has a strong university pipeline through programs at UNC Chapel Hill, Duke, and East Carolina University that creates ongoing demand for clinical nursing staff.
What is the prevailing wage for sponsored nursing jobs in North Carolina?
U.S. employers sponsoring a visa must pay at least the prevailing wage, which is what workers in the same role, area, and experience level typically earn. The Department of Labor sets this rate to make sure companies aren't hiring foreign workers simply because they'd accept lower pay than a U.S. worker. It varies by job title, location, and experience. You can look up current prevailing wage rates for any occupation and location using the OFLC Wage Search page.
