Which companies sponsor visas for nurses in New Mexico?
The largest visa-sponsoring employers for nurses in New Mexico include Presbyterian Healthcare Services, University of New Mexico Health Sciences Center, Lovelace Health System, and CommonSpirit Health facilities. Critical Access Hospitals in rural areas such as Gallup Indian Medical Center and Gerald Champion Regional Medical Center also hire internationally, particularly for hard-to-fill specialties like ICU, emergency, and med-surg nursing.
Which visa types are most common for nursing roles in New Mexico?
Most internationally trained nurses working in New Mexico arrive on EB-3 immigrant visas sponsored by their employer through PERM labor certification. The H-1B is less common for nursing because most registered nurse roles do not meet the specialty occupation threshold, though certain advanced practice roles such as nurse practitioners may qualify. Some nurses also enter on TN visas if they hold Canadian or Mexican citizenship.
Which cities in New Mexico have the most nursing sponsorship jobs?
Albuquerque accounts for the largest share of nursing sponsorship opportunities in New Mexico, driven by UNM Hospital, Presbyterian, and Lovelace campuses. Santa Fe follows, with St. Vincent Regional Medical Center as a primary employer. Las Cruces is a growing market anchored by MountainView Regional Medical Center. Rural communities across the state also see sponsorship activity due to persistent staffing shortages in underserved areas.
How to find nursing visa sponsorship jobs in New Mexico?
Migrate Mate filters job listings specifically by visa sponsorship, making it straightforward to identify New Mexico nursing roles where employers are actively willing to sponsor. You can search by specialty, city, or employer type to narrow results to positions that match your qualifications. Because sponsorship availability changes frequently, checking Migrate Mate regularly and setting up alerts for New Mexico nursing roles gives you the most current picture of what is open.
Are there state-specific considerations for internationally trained nurses seeking sponsorship in New Mexico?
International nurses must obtain a New Mexico RN license through the New Mexico Nursing Board before starting work, which requires passing the NCLEX and meeting English proficiency requirements. New Mexico participates in the Nurse Licensure Compact, so nurses already holding a compact license from another state may be able to practice without a separate state application. VisaScreen certification through CGFNS is also required before an immigrant visa can be issued.
What is the prevailing wage for sponsored nursing jobs in New Mexico?
U.S. employers sponsoring a visa must pay at least the prevailing wage, which is what workers in the same role, area, and experience level typically earn. The Department of Labor sets this rate to make sure companies aren't hiring foreign workers simply because they'd accept lower pay than a U.S. worker. It varies by job title, location, and experience. You can look up current prevailing wage rates for any occupation and location using the OFLC Wage Search page.
