Which visa types are most common for nursing roles in South Dakota?
The EB-3 immigrant visa is the most common pathway for internationally trained nurses in South Dakota, as nursing roles qualify as skilled worker positions under that category. Some nurses enter on a TN visa if they hold Canadian or Mexican citizenship. The H-1B is less frequently used for nursing because most registered nurse positions do not meet the specialty occupation threshold required for that visa category.
Which companies sponsor visas for nurses in South Dakota?
Sanford Health and Avera Health are the two largest health systems in South Dakota and have established international hiring programs that include visa sponsorship for registered nurses. Monument Health in Rapid City and Brookings Health System are smaller regional employers that have also sponsored nursing positions. Staffing agencies contracted with these health systems occasionally facilitate sponsorship as well, though direct employment sponsorship is more common for permanent roles.
Which cities in South Dakota have the most nursing sponsorship jobs?
Sioux Falls is by far the most active market for sponsored nursing positions in South Dakota, given that both Sanford Health and Avera Health operate their largest hospital campuses there. Rapid City is the second-largest market, driven by Monument Health's regional medical center. Aberdeen and Watertown have smaller but consistent demand, particularly for rural health shortage areas that may qualify for expedited processing under certain federal programs.
How to find nursing visa sponsorship jobs in South Dakota?
Migrate Mate is the most direct way to browse nursing visa sponsorship jobs in South Dakota, with listings filtered specifically to employers willing to sponsor international candidates. When reviewing postings, confirm that the employer supports EB-3 or other relevant visa categories and that the role includes assistance with NCLEX-RN endorsement and South Dakota Board of Nursing licensure, since sponsorship without licensing support creates significant delays in your start date.
What state-specific considerations apply to sponsored nursing jobs in South Dakota?
South Dakota is a Nurse Licensure Compact (NLC) state, meaning nurses who already hold a multistate license from another compact state can practice there without obtaining a separate South Dakota license. For internationally trained nurses, the South Dakota Board of Nursing requires a credential evaluation before granting licensure, which adds time to the onboarding process. Many South Dakota rural communities are designated Health Professional Shortage Areas, which can affect visa processing timelines and employer recruitment incentives.
What is the prevailing wage for sponsored nursing jobs in South Dakota?
U.S. employers sponsoring a visa must pay at least the prevailing wage, which is what workers in the same role, area, and experience level typically earn. The Department of Labor sets this rate to make sure companies aren't hiring foreign workers simply because they'd accept lower pay than a U.S. worker. It varies by job title, location, and experience. You can look up current prevailing wage rates for any occupation and location using the OFLC Wage Search page.
