Which companies sponsor visas for nurses in Ohio?
Ohio's largest health systems are the most active sponsors. Cleveland Clinic, OhioHealth, University Hospitals, and Bon Secours Mercy Health have established international hiring programs and a track record of filing H-1B visa and EB-3 petitions for nursing roles. Long-term care and rehabilitation networks, including those operated by national chains with Ohio facilities, also sponsor nurses, particularly through the EB-3 immigrant visa pathway.
Which visa types are most common for nursing roles in Ohio?
The EB-3 employment-based immigrant visa is the most common pathway for internationally educated nurses in Ohio, as registered nursing qualifies as a skilled worker occupation. The H-1B nonimmigrant visa applies to advanced practice roles such as nurse practitioners and clinical nurse specialists that meet specialty occupation requirements. Some nurses also enter on TN visa status if they hold Canadian or Mexican citizenship and meet the credential requirements under USMCA.
Which cities in Ohio have the most nursing sponsorship jobs?
Cleveland, Columbus, and Cincinnati account for the majority of nursing sponsorship opportunities in Ohio. Cleveland's medical district anchors activity around Cleveland Clinic and University Hospitals. Columbus sees steady demand driven by OhioHealth and Nationwide Children's Hospital. Cincinnati's healthcare corridor, including Cincinnati Children's and TriHealth, adds significant volume. Smaller cities like Toledo and Dayton also have hospital systems that hire internationally, though at lower frequency.
How to find nursing visa sponsorship jobs in Ohio?
Migrate Mate filters nursing jobs in Ohio specifically by visa sponsorship, so you're not sorting through postings that don't apply to international candidates. The platform covers roles across Ohio's major health systems and lets you search by city or facility type. Because sponsorship willingness isn't always stated in job postings, using Migrate Mate's curated listings saves significant time and surfaces employers with an active sponsorship history in nursing.
What do internationally educated nurses need to know about Ohio licensure?
Ohio requires internationally educated nurses to obtain licensure through the Ohio Board of Nursing, which involves credential evaluation through a body such as CGFNS and passing the NCLEX-RN examination. Ohio is a Nurse Licensure Compact member state, meaning nurses who hold a multistate license from another compact state can practice in Ohio without a separate license. Employers typically require an active Ohio RN license or proof of eligibility before initiating a visa petition.
What is the prevailing wage for sponsored nursing jobs in Ohio?
U.S. employers sponsoring a visa must pay at least the prevailing wage, which is what workers in the same role, area, and experience level typically earn. The Department of Labor sets this rate to make sure companies aren't hiring foreign workers simply because they'd accept lower pay than a U.S. worker. It varies by job title, location, and experience. You can look up current prevailing wage rates for any occupation and location using the OFLC Wage Search page.
