Job Summary

The Gatton College of Business and Economics at the University of Kentucky invites applications for a full-time Business Analytics Lecturer with an anticipated start date of August 1, 2027. The selected candidate will be appointed to a full-time 9-month, non-tenure eligible faculty position for an initial two-year period that has the potential for renewal and for promotion to Senior Lecturer after five years.

We seek an accomplished and student-focused colleague who is passionate about teaching business analytics and preparing students to solve practical, data-driven business problems. The successful candidate will contribute to business analytics instruction at the undergraduate and graduate levels and support programs associated with the college’s Business Analytics Center. Teaching responsibilities total 7 to 8 courses per academic year (depending on other responsibilities).

The Gatton College of Business and Economics at the University of Kentucky contains five academic units: The Von Allmen School of Accountancy, the Department of Economics, the John Maze Steward Department of Finance and Quantitative Methods, the Department of Management, and the Department of Marketing and Supply Chain. The selected candidate will be affiliated with the academic unit that most closely aligns with the candidate’s education, professional experience, and areas of expertise.

Primary Responsibilities

The primary responsibility of this position is high-quality instruction. Depending on the successful candidate’s expertise and college needs, teaching assignments may include:
- Introduction to business analytics
- Business intelligence and data visualization
- Data management and SQL
- Data modeling
- Data mining and predictive analytics
- Spreadsheet-based business analysis
- Undergraduate business analytics capstone
- Other analytics or business courses consistent with the candidate’s qualifications

Courses may be delivered in face-to-face, online, or hybrid formats. The successful candidate will be expected to develop and maintain relevant course content, assess student learning, provide timely feedback, and remain current with developments in business analytics practice and technology.

The position also includes service responsibilities that may involve:
- Supporting the administration and continued development of undergraduate and graduate business analytics programs
- Advising or mentoring students interested in analytics careers
- Supporting experiential learning and industry-based analytics projects
- Contributing to a business analytics lab or other student-learning initiatives
- Providing analytics or technology instruction to faculty, staff, or students
- Advising a student organization related to business analytics
- Participating in college and university service

Specific teaching and service assignments will be determined in consultation with the successful candidate and may be adjusted to reflect program needs, enrollment, and the candidate’s qualifications.

Required Qualifications

- A master’s degree or higher in business analytics or another appropriate discipline with substantial analytics content
- Demonstrated knowledge of business analytics concepts and methods
- The ability to teach and communicate effectively with students from varied academic and professional backgrounds
- Proficiency with relevant analytics software or a demonstrated ability and commitment to develop the software expertise required for assigned courses
- A commitment to effective teaching, student success, and continuous improvement

Preferred Qualifications

- A terminal degree in an appropriate discipline.
- Relevant professional experience applying analytics in business, government, consulting, or another organizational setting
- Prior teaching or training experience at the undergraduate, graduate, professional, or corporate level
- Experience teaching in face-to-face and online environments
- Experience developing courses, curricula, or experiential learning projects
- Experience working with employer partners or incorporating real-world data and business problems into instruction
- Proficiency with tools such as Excel, SQL, Tableau, Power BI, JMP Pro, Python, R, or other contemporary analytics technologies

The Business Analytics Center

The Business Analytics Center serves as an interdisciplinary resource for analytics education and engagement across the Gatton College of Business and Economics. Its academic offerings have included an undergraduate Business Analytics minor and a Graduate Certificate in Business Analytics. The lecturer will have opportunities to contribute to the continued development of these and other analytics initiatives.
