Which aerospace and defense companies sponsor Green Card visas in Kentucky?
Several established employers in Kentucky's aerospace and defense industry have histories of Green Card sponsorship, including Raytheon Technologies, L3Harris, Collins Aerospace, and GE Aviation, which operates a significant presence in the state. Defense contractors supporting the Army installation at Fort Knox and aviation firms clustered around Louisville International Airport also appear in OFLC labor certification filings. Sponsorship activity varies by role and employer, so reviewing PERM filing records is a reliable starting point.
Which cities in Kentucky have the most aerospace and defense Green Card sponsorship jobs?
Louisville leads Kentucky for aerospace and defense employment, anchored by GE Aviation's large maintenance and engineering operations and proximity to a major air freight hub. Lexington and the surrounding Bluegrass region support defense electronics and systems roles. Fort Knox and its surrounding communities see defense contractor hiring tied to Army programs. Smaller clusters exist in Elizabethtown and Bowling Green, where defense-adjacent manufacturing has expanded over the past decade.
What types of aerospace and defense roles typically qualify for Green Card sponsorship in Kentucky?
Roles most commonly sponsored under employment-based Green Card categories in Kentucky's aerospace and defense sector include aerospace engineers, avionics technicians, systems engineers, quality assurance specialists, and software engineers supporting defense platforms. Positions requiring specialized degrees in mechanical, electrical, or aerospace engineering and those tied to government-contract work tend to generate the most PERM labor certification activity. Security clearance eligibility can affect sponsorship timelines for positions on classified programs.
How do I find aerospace and defense Green Card sponsorship jobs in Kentucky?
Migrate Mate lets you filter specifically for aerospace and defense roles in Kentucky where employers have active Green Card sponsorship histories, drawing on DOL labor certification data to surface verified opportunities. Rather than sorting through unfiltered postings, you can focus on companies that have filed PERM applications for similar roles in the state. This is especially useful in Kentucky, where sponsoring employers are concentrated among a smaller set of established defense contractors and aviation firms.
Are there any state-specific or industry-specific considerations for Green Card sponsorship in aerospace and defense in Kentucky?
Many aerospace and defense positions in Kentucky involve work on federal contracts, which introduces security clearance requirements. Employers are generally cautious about sponsoring foreign nationals for roles requiring access to classified information, since clearances are typically not granted to non-citizens. Green Card sponsorship is more common for roles on unclassified programs or in manufacturing, maintenance, and engineering support functions. Kentucky's right-to-work status and relatively lower prevailing wages compared to coastal markets can also affect employer cost calculations under PERM.
What is the prevailing wage for Green Card aerospace & defense jobs in Kentucky?
U.S. employers sponsoring a visa must pay at least the prevailing wage, which is what workers in the same role, area, and experience level typically earn. The Department of Labor sets this rate to make sure companies aren't hiring foreign workers simply because they'd accept lower pay than a U.S. worker. It varies by job title, location, and experience. You can look up current prevailing wage rates for any occupation and location using the OFLC Wage Search page.
