Job Summary
The Assistant Bakery Manager supports the Bakery Manager in overseeing the day-to-day operations of the bakery department. This role helps drive sales, ensures exceptional customer service, maintains product quality and food safety standards, and assists with leading and developing bakery associates. The Assistant Bakery Manager assumes department leadership responsibilities in the Bakery Manager’s absence.
Key Responsibilities
Department Operations
- Assist in managing daily bakery department operations.
- Ensure product availability, freshness, quality, and presentation standards are maintained.
- Monitor production schedules to meet customer demand while minimizing shrink.
- Maintain department cleanliness, organization, and compliance with company standards.
- Support inventory management, ordering, receiving, and merchandising activities.
Customer Service
- Deliver outstanding customer service and create a positive shopping experience.
- Address customer questions, concerns, and special-order requests promptly and professionally.
- Promote bakery products through suggestive selling and merchandising initiatives.
Leadership & Team Development
- Assist with training, coaching, and developing bakery associates.
- Help ensure proper staffing and workflow throughout the department.
- Promote a positive, productive, and inclusive work environment.
- Support performance management and accountability initiatives.
Food Safety & Compliance
- Ensure compliance with all food safety, sanitation, health, and safety regulations.
- Follow company policies, procedures, and operational standards.
- Maintain accurate records related to food safety and department operations.
Financial Performance
- Assist in achieving department sales, labor, and profitability goals.
- Monitor shrink, waste, and inventory levels to maximize department performance.
- Support promotional and seasonal merchandising programs.
Qualifications
- Previous bakery, food service, retail, or grocery experience required.
- Prior supervisory or leadership experience preferred.
- Knowledge of bakery products, production processes, and food safety practices.
- Strong communication, customer service, and organizational skills.
- Ability to work a flexible schedule, including evenings, weekends, and holidays.
Physical Requirements
- Frequently lift and carry up to 50 pounds.
- Stand, walk, bend, reach, and perform repetitive motions for extended periods.
- Work in varying temperature environments, including refrigerated and freezer areas.
Reporting Relationship
- Reports to: Bakery Manager
- Direct Reports: Bakery Associates (as assigned)
