Which companies sponsor visas for care assistants in Maine?
MaineHealth and Northern Light Health are Maine's two largest health systems and have sponsored foreign national workers in care and support roles. Residential care facilities and home health agencies, including those operating under the PACE (Program of All-inclusive Care for the Elderly) model, also hire internationally. Sponsorship availability depends on individual facility staffing needs and HR capacity, so checking each employer's current postings directly is the most reliable approach.
Which visa types are most common for care assistant roles in Maine?
The H-1B visa is generally not applicable to care assistant roles since they typically do not require a bachelor's degree in a specific specialty field. More common pathways include the H-2B visa for temporary non-agricultural workers, EB-3 immigrant visas for unskilled or semi-skilled positions, and employer-sponsored green card processes. Some candidates already holding work authorization through OPT, TPS, or a family-based green card also fill care assistant positions in Maine.
How to find care assistant visa sponsorship jobs in Maine?
Migrate Mate is the most direct way to find care assistant visa sponsorship jobs in Maine, as it filters specifically for employers willing to sponsor. This removes the guesswork of cold-applying to facilities that don't sponsor. Search care assistant roles filtered to Maine on Migrate Mate to see active listings from employers in Portland, Bangor, Lewiston, and surrounding areas who have indicated sponsorship availability.
Which cities in Maine have the most care assistant sponsorship jobs?
Portland is Maine's largest city and home to the most concentrated healthcare infrastructure, making it the top market for care assistant roles. Bangor serves as the regional hub for northern and eastern Maine, with Northern Light Health anchoring much of the hiring there. Lewiston and Auburn, together forming Maine's second-largest urban area, also have active care facilities. Rural parts of Maine have chronic staffing shortages, which can translate into stronger sponsorship motivation among some employers.
Are there any state-specific considerations for care assistant visa sponsorship in Maine?
Maine has one of the oldest median populations in the United States, which drives persistent demand for care workers across home health, assisted living, and memory care settings. The state also has active refugee resettlement programs, particularly in Portland and Lewiston, which means some employers have existing infrastructure for hiring internationally. Background check requirements and state certification standards for care roles vary by setting, so confirming credential requirements with each employer before applying is important.
What is the prevailing wage for sponsored care assistant jobs in Maine?
U.S. employers sponsoring a visa must pay at least the prevailing wage, which is what workers in the same role, area, and experience level typically earn. The Department of Labor sets this rate to make sure companies aren't hiring foreign workers simply because they'd accept lower pay than a U.S. worker. It varies by job title, location, and experience. You can look up current prevailing wage rates for any occupation and location using the OFLC Wage Search page.
