Which companies sponsor visas for program development managers in Maryland?
Federal contractors and government-adjacent firms are among the most active sponsors in Maryland, including Leidos, Booz Allen Hamilton, SAIC, and Northrop Grumman, which maintain large Maryland operations. Healthcare systems such as Johns Hopkins Medicine and the University of Maryland Medical System also sponsor program development manager roles. Research institutions and nonprofit organizations tied to federal funding rounds out the sponsorship pool in this state.
Which visa types are most common for program development manager roles in Maryland?
The H-1B visa is the most common visa for program development managers in Maryland, as the role typically qualifies as a specialty occupation requiring at least a bachelor's degree in a relevant field. Employers with ongoing federal contracts occasionally use L-1A visas for managers transferring from international offices. Candidates with exceptional records in program leadership may also explore the O-1A, though it requires substantial documented recognition.
Which cities in Maryland have the most program development manager sponsorship jobs?
Bethesda and Rockville lead in sponsorship volume due to their dense concentration of federal contractors, NIH-affiliated organizations, and biotech firms. Baltimore is the second major hub, anchored by healthcare systems, universities, and state agency partners. Annapolis and the broader Prince George's County corridor also see steady demand, particularly from government consulting firms and technology services companies operating near federal agencies.
How to find program development manager visa sponsorship jobs in Maryland?
Migrate Mate filters program development manager roles specifically by visa sponsorship, so you can search Maryland positions without sorting through employers who don't sponsor. The platform surfaces openings from federal contractors, healthcare networks, and research institutions that are active sponsors in the state. Filtering by Maryland on Migrate Mate gives you a focused list of verified sponsorship-eligible program development manager opportunities across Baltimore, Bethesda, and surrounding areas.
Are there state-specific considerations for program development managers seeking visa sponsorship in Maryland?
Maryland's high share of federal contractor employers means many program development manager roles require security clearance eligibility, which can complicate sponsorship since clearances are generally unavailable to non-citizens during the visa process. Employers familiar with this constraint often target roles that don't require clearance for sponsored candidates. The state's strong university pipeline, particularly from University of Maryland and Johns Hopkins, also means some employers have established processes for transitioning international candidates from OPT to H-1B sponsorship.
What is the prevailing wage for sponsored program development manager jobs in Maryland?
U.S. employers sponsoring a visa must pay at least the prevailing wage, which is what workers in the same role, area, and experience level typically earn. The Department of Labor sets this rate to make sure companies aren't hiring foreign workers simply because they'd accept lower pay than a U.S. worker. It varies by job title, location, and experience. You can look up current prevailing wage rates for any occupation and location using the OFLC Wage Search page.
