Which companies sponsor visas for solution engineers in Maryland?
The most active sponsors for solution engineers in Maryland include Booz Allen Hamilton, Leidos, Northrop Grumman, Tenable, and Appian. Government IT contractors headquartered in the Bethesda-Rockville corridor file H-1B petitions for solution engineers regularly, particularly for roles supporting federal agencies. Cybersecurity firms based in the Baltimore-Columbia area have also increased sponsorship activity in recent years.
Which visa types are most common for solution engineer roles in Maryland?
The H-1B is the most common visa category for solution engineers in Maryland, as the role typically requires a bachelor's degree in computer science, engineering, or a related field, meeting the specialty occupation standard. Candidates already holding TN visa status (Canadian or Mexican nationals) or L-1B intracompany transferee visas are also placed in solution engineer roles, particularly at large enterprise technology firms with global operations.
Which cities in Maryland have the most solution engineer sponsorship jobs?
Bethesda, Rockville, and the broader Montgomery County area account for the highest concentration of solution engineer sponsorship activity in Maryland, driven by the dense presence of federal contractors and technology consultancies. Baltimore is a secondary hub, particularly for cybersecurity-focused solution engineering roles. Columbia and Annapolis see activity tied to mid-market SaaS companies and government-adjacent technology vendors.
How to find solution engineer visa sponsorship jobs in Maryland?
Migrate Mate filters solution engineer jobs specifically by visa sponsorship availability and state, so you can browse Maryland-based openings without sorting through roles that don't offer sponsorship. Because Maryland's market skews heavily toward government IT and cybersecurity, it's worth filtering for employers with active H-1B filing histories in those sectors. Migrate Mate surfaces that data alongside current job postings.
Are there any Maryland-specific considerations for solution engineers seeking visa sponsorship?
Many solution engineer roles in Maryland involve work on federal government contracts, which can add complexity for sponsored candidates. Certain positions require security clearances, and non-citizens face significant restrictions on obtaining clearances while on nonimmigrant visas. Candidates should confirm with prospective employers upfront whether the specific role requires clearance eligibility, as this directly affects whether sponsorship is viable for a given position.
What is the prevailing wage for sponsored solution engineer jobs in Maryland?
U.S. employers sponsoring a visa must pay at least the prevailing wage, which is what workers in the same role, area, and experience level typically earn. The Department of Labor sets this rate to make sure companies aren't hiring foreign workers simply because they'd accept lower pay than a U.S. worker. It varies by job title, location, and experience. You can look up current prevailing wage rates for any occupation and location using the OFLC Wage Search page.
