At WHOOP, we're on a mission to unlock human performance and healthspan. WHOOP empowers members to perform at a higher level through a deeper understanding of their bodies and daily lives.
WHOOP is hiring a Senior Sensor Intelligence Engineering Program Manager to support advanced development of physiological sensing and signal processing capabilities that may power future WHOOP innovations. In this role, you will partner closely with sensor intelligence researchers, hardware engineers, and firmware teams to explore new algorithmic approaches, enable experimental research programs, and validate emerging sensing technologies. You will play a critical role in structuring complex research efforts, coordinating cross-functional experimentation, and helping translate early-stage discoveries into validated technical opportunities for future product development at WHOOP.
Responsibilities:
- Lead program management for early-stage signal processing and physiological algorithm development, enabling rapid exploration of new sensing and modeling approaches that may power future WHOOP capabilities.
- Partner with sensor intelligence researchers, data scientists, hardware engineers, and firmware teams to define experimental roadmaps, feasibility milestones, and technical success criteria for advanced development programs.
- Establish structured processes for algorithm prototyping, experimentation, and iterative evaluation, helping research teams move efficiently from concept to validated technical feasibility.
- Coordinate cross-functional efforts to design and execute data collection studies, ensuring research teams have the datasets required to evaluate new signal processing approaches.
- Identify technical risks, knowledge gaps, and dependencies early, driving focused investigations that inform future product development decisions.
- Facilitate the transition of promising algorithms and learnings from advanced development into downstream product and engineering teams for potential integration into the WHOOP platform.
QUALIFICATIONS
- Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Computer Science, Data Science, Applied Mathematics, Biomedical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or a related technical field, or equivalent practical experience.
- 7+ years of experience in technical program management, engineering program management, or leading complex cross-functional technical initiatives.
- Experience working closely with sensor intelligence, machine learning, data science, or research engineering teams.
- Experience working with physiological signals or wearable sensor data (e.g., PPG, accelerometry, ECG, or similar biosignals) preferred.
- Demonstrated ability to manage programs in research or advanced development environments where goals evolve through experimentation and discovery.
- Strong understanding of early algorithm development workflows, including experimentation and data collection.
- Excellent communication and organizational skills, with the ability to translate complex technical concepts across research, engineering, and product teams.
- Strong commitment to embracing and leveraging AI tools in day-to-day tasks, ensuring AI-assisted work aligns with the same high-quality standards as personal contributions.
LOCATION
This role is based in the WHOOP office located in Boston, MA. The successful candidate must be prepared to relocate if necessary to work out of the Boston, MA office.
Interested in the role, but don’t meet every qualification? We encourage you to still apply! Which companies sponsor visas for engineering program managers in Massachusetts?
Several large Massachusetts employers have a consistent track record of sponsoring H-1B visas for engineering program managers. These include Raytheon Technologies, Amazon (with offices in Cambridge), MathWorks, HubSpot, Wayfair, and Biogen. Large defense and aerospace contractors along the Route 128 corridor also file regularly. Sponsorship decisions are made case by case, so a company's history of filings is a useful signal but not a guarantee.
Which visa types are most common for engineering program manager roles in Massachusetts?
The H-1B is the most common visa category for engineering program managers in Massachusetts, as EPM roles typically require a bachelor's degree or higher in engineering, computer science, or a related field, meeting the specialty occupation standard. Candidates with extraordinary ability may qualify for an O-1A. Australians should also consider the E-3 visa, which has no lottery and is available year-round.
How to find engineering program manager visa sponsorship jobs in Massachusetts?
Migrate Mate is the most direct way to find engineering program manager roles in Massachusetts where employers are open to visa sponsorship. The platform filters specifically for sponsorship-willing employers, saving you from applying to roles that won't support a work visa. Focus your search on Greater Boston, Cambridge, and the Route 128 corridor, where the highest concentration of EPM openings tends to appear.
Which cities in Massachusetts have the most engineering program manager sponsorship jobs?
Greater Boston and Cambridge account for the largest share of engineering program manager openings in Massachusetts, driven by the region's concentration of technology, defense, and life sciences employers. Waltham and Burlington along the Route 128 corridor are also active hiring hubs, particularly for companies in aerospace, semiconductors, and enterprise software. Worcester is a secondary market with growing activity in medical devices and manufacturing.
Are there any Massachusetts-specific considerations for engineering program manager sponsorship candidates?
Massachusetts has one of the highest prevailing wage levels in the country for engineering and program management roles, which affects what employers must pay H-1B workers. The state's university ecosystem, including MIT, Northeastern, and UMass Amherst, creates a competitive candidate pool. Candidates with backgrounds in defense, life sciences, or hardware systems may find stronger sponsorship interest than those from purely general management tracks.
What is the prevailing wage for sponsored engineering program manager jobs in Massachusetts?
U.S. employers sponsoring a visa must pay at least the prevailing wage, which is what workers in the same role, area, and experience level typically earn. The Department of Labor sets this rate to make sure companies aren't hiring foreign workers simply because they'd accept lower pay than a U.S. worker. It varies by job title, location, and experience. You can look up current prevailing wage rates for any occupation and location using the OFLC Wage Search page.
