Search Manufacturing Jobs in MassachusettsManufacturing OPT Sponsorship Jobs in Massachusetts: Frequently Asked Questions
Which manufacturing companies in Massachusetts sponsor F-1 OPT visas?
Several large manufacturers in Massachusetts have established track records of hiring F-1 OPT students. Raytheon Technologies in Tewksbury, Analog Devices in Wilmington, Waters Corporation in Milford, and Thermo Fisher Scientific in Waltham regularly hire international students in engineering and technical roles. Smaller contract manufacturers and medical device firms in the Route 128 corridor also hire on OPT, particularly for STEM-designated positions.
Which cities in Massachusetts have the most manufacturing F-1 OPT sponsorship jobs?
The Route 128 and I-495 corridors generate the highest concentration of manufacturing OPT opportunities. Waltham, Wilmington, Lowell, and Woburn host large aerospace, semiconductor, and medical device employers. Worcester is a secondary hub with defense and industrial manufacturing presence. Cambridge and Watertown have a growing cluster of biotech-adjacent manufacturing firms that hire OPT students in lab and production engineering roles.
What types of manufacturing roles typically qualify for F-1 OPT sponsorship in Massachusetts?
Roles most commonly filled through F-1 OPT in Massachusetts manufacturing include process engineering, manufacturing engineering, quality assurance engineering, supply chain analyst, and R&D technician positions. Many of these qualify for the 24-month STEM OPT extension if the role directly uses a STEM degree. Production supervisor, operations analyst, and test engineer roles at medical device and aerospace firms also commonly appear on OPT hiring lists.
How do I find manufacturing F-1 OPT sponsorship jobs in Massachusetts?
Migrate Mate is built specifically for international students searching for OPT-friendly roles and filters jobs by visa type, industry, and state. For Massachusetts manufacturing specifically, searching on Migrate Mate lets you surface employers who have actively sponsored F-1 OPT workers in sectors like aerospace, medical devices, and semiconductors. Combining that with outreach to university career centers at MIT, UMass Lowell, and Northeastern, which have strong manufacturing industry pipelines, can strengthen your search.
Are there any Massachusetts-specific considerations for F-1 OPT in manufacturing?
Massachusetts has a high concentration of defense contractors subject to export control regulations, including ITAR. Some manufacturing roles at these companies are restricted to U.S. persons and are not available to F-1 OPT students regardless of eligibility otherwise. It is important to confirm a role's ITAR or EAR status early in the application process. Outside defense, the medical device and semiconductor sectors in Massachusetts are generally more accessible to international students on OPT.
