Search Automotive Jobs in MichiganAutomotive CPT Sponsorship Jobs in Michigan: Frequently Asked Questions
Which automotive companies in Michigan sponsor F-1 CPT visas?
Ford Motor Company, General Motors, and Stellantis are the largest automotive employers in Michigan with established CPT programs, primarily at their metro Detroit and Dearborn campuses. Tier-1 suppliers such as Aptiv, BorgWarner, Magna International, and Lear Corporation also hire CPT students in technical and engineering roles. Sponsorship availability varies by department, project need, and academic term, so confirming CPT eligibility directly with each employer's HR team is important.
Which cities in Michigan have the most automotive F-1 CPT sponsorship jobs?
The Detroit metro area concentrates the majority of automotive CPT opportunities. Dearborn hosts Ford's global headquarters, Warren is home to General Motors' technical center, and Auburn Hills has historically been a Stellantis hub. Ann Arbor offers additional opportunities through university-adjacent research centers and suppliers. Holland and Grand Rapids in western Michigan also have automotive supplier operations with CPT hiring activity.
What types of automotive roles typically qualify for F-1 CPT sponsorship in Michigan?
Roles in vehicle engineering, powertrain development, autonomous systems, software engineering, data analytics, supply chain, and quality assurance are commonly filled through CPT arrangements in Michigan's automotive sector. The position must directly relate to your enrolled degree program for CPT authorization, so a mechanical engineering student working on chassis dynamics or a computer science student on ADAS software would typically meet that alignment requirement.
How do I find automotive F-1 CPT sponsorship jobs in Michigan?
Migrate Mate lists automotive jobs in Michigan that are open to F-1 CPT candidates, filtering out roles where international students are not considered. Searching by the automotive industry category and filtering to Michigan and F-1 CPT on Migrate Mate surfaces relevant openings at OEMs and suppliers across the Detroit metro, Ann Arbor, and beyond. Confirming CPT authorization with your Designated School Official before applying is an essential step.
Are there any Michigan-specific considerations for F-1 CPT in the automotive industry?
Michigan's automotive employers are experienced with international students through partnerships with the University of Michigan, Michigan State University, and Wayne State University. Many internship cycles align with the academic calendar, so timing your CPT authorization to match a summer or co-op semester matters. Some suppliers and OEMs in Michigan require security clearance or export control compliance reviews, which can affect eligibility for international students on F-1 status depending on the project.
