Which automotive companies in Indiana are known to sponsor F-1 CPT visas?
Several large manufacturers and Tier 1 suppliers in Indiana have structured internship programs compatible with F-1 CPT. Cummins (headquartered in Columbus) and Subaru of Indiana Automotive in Lafayette are among the most prominent. Toyota's Princeton plant and Stellantis operations in the state also recruit interns. Tier 1 suppliers such as BorgWarner and Delphi Technologies have Indiana facilities that have historically taken on engineering interns.
Which cities in Indiana have the most automotive F-1 CPT sponsorship jobs?
Columbus leads due to Cummins' global headquarters and dense supplier network. Lafayette is a strong second, driven by Subaru of Indiana Automotive's manufacturing campus. Princeton in southwestern Indiana hosts Toyota's North American manufacturing plant. Indianapolis, as the state capital and logistics hub, attracts automotive suppliers and engineering firms with recurring intern needs across electrical, mechanical, and industrial disciplines.
What types of automotive roles typically qualify for F-1 CPT sponsorship in Indiana?
Roles with a direct connection to a student's degree program are most commonly approved for CPT. In Indiana's automotive sector, this typically includes mechanical engineering internships, manufacturing engineering co-ops, supply chain and operations analyst roles, quality assurance positions, and embedded software or controls engineering roles. The job must be integral to the degree curriculum, so students need formal approval from their Designated School Official before accepting any offer.
How do I find automotive F-1 CPT sponsorship jobs in Indiana?
Migrate Mate lists automotive internships and co-ops in Indiana that are tagged for F-1 CPT eligibility, saving you the time of filtering out employers who don't sponsor international students. Search by state and visa type to surface roles at manufacturers and suppliers in Columbus, Lafayette, and Princeton. Always confirm CPT authorization with your DSO before accepting an offer, as eligibility depends on your specific program and school's policies.
Are there any Indiana-specific considerations for F-1 CPT in the automotive industry?
Indiana's automotive employers are concentrated in smaller cities rather than a single metro, so relocation or commute planning matters when evaluating offers. Many of the state's largest automotive internship programs are tied to co-op cycles aligned with university academic calendars, particularly Purdue University in West Lafayette. Students should confirm their program allows CPT at the relevant time of year and that the position qualifies as curricular, not just work experience.
