Get Access To All JobsFrequently Asked Questions
Which manufacturing companies sponsor F-1 CPT visas in Michigan?
Michigan's automotive-heavy manufacturing base includes companies like Ford, General Motors, Stellantis, Magna International, and BorgWarner that have historically hosted F-1 CPT interns and co-op students. Tier-1 and Tier-2 automotive suppliers throughout Southeast Michigan and the Grand Rapids area also participate in CPT programs, often through partnerships with Michigan universities. CPT authorization depends on your school's approval, not just the employer's willingness.
Which cities in Michigan have the most manufacturing F-1 CPT sponsorship jobs?
The Detroit metropolitan area, including Dearborn, Warren, Auburn Hills, and Southfield, is Michigan's densest concentration of manufacturing CPT opportunities given the automotive headquarters and supplier networks located there. Grand Rapids supports a strong manufacturing base in medical devices, food processing, and industrial equipment. Lansing and Flint also have notable automotive assembly and parts manufacturing operations that periodically hire CPT students.
What types of manufacturing roles typically qualify for F-1 CPT sponsorship in Michigan?
Roles that align directly with a student's degree program are eligible for CPT authorization. In Michigan manufacturing, this commonly includes positions in mechanical engineering, industrial engineering, supply chain management, quality assurance, manufacturing process engineering, and operations management. Data analytics and materials science roles tied to automotive R&D have also supported CPT placements. The position must be an integral or required part of your academic curriculum as determined by your Designated School Official.
How do I find manufacturing F-1 CPT sponsorship jobs in Michigan?
Migrate Mate is built specifically for international students searching for CPT-eligible roles, and you can filter by visa type, industry, and state to surface manufacturing jobs in Michigan that employers have indicated they can support. Beyond the platform, your university's DSO and career services office often maintain relationships with Michigan-based manufacturers who regularly hire CPT students, particularly automotive suppliers in the Southeast Michigan corridor.
Are there state-specific considerations for F-1 CPT in Michigan's manufacturing industry?
Michigan's manufacturing sector is heavily export-oriented, particularly in automotive, which means some roles may involve export-controlled technologies subject to Export Administration Regulations. Employers in defense-adjacent or advanced manufacturing segments may require Technology Control Plans before placing CPT students on certain projects. It is worth confirming with both your DSO and the employer whether any export control review is needed before your CPT authorization is finalized.
