Which companies sponsor visas for HR generalists in Michigan?
Michigan's largest visa sponsors for HR generalist roles tend to be its major automotive and manufacturing employers, including Ford Motor Company, General Motors, and Stellantis, alongside large healthcare networks like Henry Ford Health and Spectrum Health. University systems such as the University of Michigan and Michigan State University also sponsor HR professionals, particularly for roles tied to specialized human resources functions.
Which visa types are most common for HR generalist roles in Michigan?
The H-1B is the most common visa category for HR generalist positions in Michigan, provided the role requires at least a bachelor's degree in human resources, business administration, or a related field. Some applicants with Canadian or Mexican citizenship may qualify for the TN visa under the HR manager occupational category. Australian citizens may be eligible for the E-3 visa for qualifying specialty occupation HR roles.
Which cities in Michigan have the most HR generalist sponsorship jobs?
Detroit and its surrounding suburbs, including Dearborn, Auburn Hills, and Troy, account for the largest share of HR generalist sponsorship activity in Michigan, driven by the automotive industry and large corporate headquarters. Ann Arbor generates demand through the University of Michigan and its affiliated healthcare and tech employers. Grand Rapids is a secondary market, with activity from healthcare, manufacturing, and consumer goods companies.
How to find hr generalist visa sponsorship jobs in Michigan?
Migrate Mate is built specifically for international job seekers and filters HR generalist roles in Michigan by visa sponsorship willingness, so you're not sorting through listings from employers who won't sponsor. The platform is particularly useful for identifying which Michigan employers, including automotive companies, healthcare systems, and universities, have a documented history of sponsoring HR professionals.
Are there any state-specific considerations for HR generalists seeking sponsorship in Michigan?
Michigan's HR generalist market is closely tied to the automotive and manufacturing sectors, which means sponsoring employers often expect familiarity with labor relations, union environments, or high-volume hourly workforce management. The state's strong university system also produces a pipeline of domestic HR candidates, so sponsored roles tend to require specialized credentials or prior experience that clearly justifies the sponsorship. Prevailing wage compliance under the H-1B applies statewide and is determined by the Detroit or Grand Rapids metro area wage surveys depending on work location.
What is the prevailing wage for sponsored hr generalist jobs in Michigan?
U.S. employers sponsoring a visa must pay at least the prevailing wage, which is what workers in the same role, area, and experience level typically earn. The Department of Labor sets this rate to make sure companies aren't hiring foreign workers simply because they'd accept lower pay than a U.S. worker. It varies by job title, location, and experience. You can look up current prevailing wage rates for any occupation and location using the OFLC Wage Search page.
