Which companies in Michigan sponsor visas for project accountants?
Large construction and engineering firms with Michigan headquarters or major offices are the most consistent sponsors, including Barton Malow, Walbridge, and Granger Construction. Automotive manufacturers such as Ford, General Motors, and Stellantis also hire project accountants and have established visa sponsorship programs. Infrastructure consultancies and large commercial real estate developers operating in the Detroit metro area round out the field.
Which visa types are most common for project accountant roles in Michigan?
The H-1B is the most common visa for project accountants in Michigan, as the role typically qualifies as a specialty occupation requiring at least a bachelor's degree in accounting, finance, or a related field. TN visas are available to Canadian and Mexican nationals with qualifying credentials. Candidates already holding an L-1 intracompany transfer visa through a multinational employer are also well positioned for these roles.
Which cities in Michigan have the most project accountant sponsorship jobs?
Detroit and its suburbs, including Southfield, Troy, and Auburn Hills, account for the largest share of project accountant sponsorship activity given the concentration of automotive, construction, and corporate headquarters there. Grand Rapids has a growing commercial construction and healthcare construction sector that generates consistent demand. Ann Arbor, home to the University of Michigan and numerous research and engineering firms, also produces project accountant openings with sponsorship potential.
How to find project accountant visa sponsorship jobs in Michigan?
Migrate Mate is built specifically for international candidates and filters project accountant roles in Michigan by visa sponsorship eligibility, saving significant research time. Because sponsorship is not always advertised explicitly in job postings, using a platform like Migrate Mate that screens for employer sponsorship history helps you focus on employers who have an established track record of filing for accounting professionals in the state.
Are there state-specific considerations for project accountants seeking sponsorship in Michigan?
Michigan's construction and manufacturing sectors follow Department of Labor prevailing wage requirements tied to the Detroit-Warren-Dearborn and Grand Rapids metropolitan statistical areas, which affects the wage an H-1B employer must commit to paying. Candidates with credentials from university programs at Michigan State University or the University of Michigan are familiar to local employers, which can smooth the vetting process. Construction project accountants should confirm their role description specifies degree-level accounting requirements to support the specialty occupation determination.
What is the prevailing wage for sponsored project accountant jobs in Michigan?
U.S. employers sponsoring a visa must pay at least the prevailing wage, which is what workers in the same role, area, and experience level typically earn. The Department of Labor sets this rate to make sure companies aren't hiring foreign workers simply because they'd accept lower pay than a U.S. worker. It varies by job title, location, and experience. You can look up current prevailing wage rates for any occupation and location using the OFLC Wage Search page.
