Which companies sponsor visas for project accountants in Hawaii?
Construction and engineering firms with active Hawaii operations, including AECOM, Hensel Phelps, and Nan Inc., have sponsored project accountants due to ongoing federal and state infrastructure contracts. Defense contractors with Pearl Harbor and Hickam installations also hire project accounting staff. Larger hospitality developers managing multi-property capital projects on Oahu and Maui represent another consistent source of sponsorship.
Which visa types are most common for project accountant roles in Hawaii?
The H-1B is the most common visa for project accountants in Hawaii, as the role generally qualifies as a specialty occupation requiring a bachelor's degree in accounting or a related field. Candidates with a Canadian or Mexican citizenship may explore the TN visa under the NAFTA-successor agreement. Some applicants already holding OPT or STEM OPT through University of Hawaii programs also enter the field before seeking employer sponsorship.
Which cities in Hawaii have the most project accountant sponsorship jobs?
Honolulu accounts for the large majority of project accountant sponsorship activity in Hawaii. It serves as the headquarters for most major construction firms, state agencies, and defense contractors operating across the islands. Kahului in Maui sees some demand tied to resort and infrastructure development, but opportunities outside Honolulu are significantly fewer and tend to be project-specific rather than permanent positions.
How to find project accountant visa sponsorship jobs in Hawaii?
Migrate Mate is built specifically for international candidates seeking visa sponsorship, making it a focused starting point for project accountant roles in Hawaii. You can filter by role and state to surface employers who have sponsored accounting positions in the past. Because Hawaii's market is smaller than mainland hubs, filtering by sponsorship history is especially useful for avoiding applications to firms unlikely to navigate the process.
Are there state-specific considerations for project accountants seeking sponsorship in Hawaii?
Hawaii's high cost of living directly affects prevailing wage determinations under the H-1B Labor Condition Application, so employers filing LCAs for Honolulu-based roles must meet wage levels set for that metro area. The state's construction pipeline is closely tied to federal spending, meaning project accountant demand can shift with infrastructure funding cycles. A CPA license from another state requires Hawaii Board of Accountancy review before practicing locally.
What is the prevailing wage for sponsored project accountant jobs in Hawaii?
U.S. employers sponsoring a visa must pay at least the prevailing wage, which is what workers in the same role, area, and experience level typically earn. The Department of Labor sets this rate to make sure companies aren't hiring foreign workers simply because they'd accept lower pay than a U.S. worker. It varies by job title, location, and experience. You can look up current prevailing wage rates for any occupation and location using the OFLC Wage Search page.
