Which news and publishing companies sponsor Green Card visas in Minnesota?
The Star Tribune, one of the largest newsrooms in the Upper Midwest, has a history of sponsoring skilled foreign nationals. Minnesota Public Radio and American Public Media Group also operate significant editorial teams in the Twin Cities. Meredith Corporation has maintained Minnesota publishing operations, and regional magazine and digital media publishers occasionally sponsor for specialized editorial, data journalism, or product roles when domestic candidates are unavailable.
Which cities in Minnesota have the most news and publishing Green Card sponsorship jobs?
Minneapolis and St. Paul account for the overwhelming majority of news and publishing Green Card sponsorship activity in Minnesota. The Twin Cities metro hosts the state's largest newsrooms, public broadcasting organizations, and digital media companies. Duluth has a smaller but active regional media presence through outlets like the Duluth News Tribune. Rochester and St. Cloud have local news organizations, though Green Card sponsorship at those outlets is far less common.
What types of news and publishing roles typically qualify for Green Card sponsorship in Minnesota?
Roles that typically support Green Card sponsorship in Minnesota's news and publishing sector include data journalists, investigative reporters with specialized expertise, software engineers building editorial platforms, audience analytics managers, and multimedia producers. Positions requiring a specific bachelor's degree in a directly related field are strongest candidates under the PERM process. General reporter or copy editor roles face higher hurdles because employers must demonstrate that no qualified U.S. worker was available.
How do I find news and publishing Green Card sponsorship jobs in Minnesota?
Migrate Mate is built specifically for this search. You can filter by Green Card sponsorship, industry, and Minnesota to surface employers in news and publishing that have actively sponsored workers through PERM or other pathways. Because Migrate Mate draws on DOL labor certification filing data, you can see which specific Minnesota publishers and media organizations have a documented history of Green Card sponsorship rather than relying on job postings that may not disclose sponsorship intentions.
Are there any Minnesota-specific considerations for Green Card sponsorship in news and publishing?
Minnesota does not have state-level immigration programs that affect the federal Green Card process, but the local media market has unique dynamics. The Twin Cities has a significant East African and Somali-American community, and publishers seeking journalists with those language skills and cultural expertise have at times sponsored candidates. Minnesota's prevailing wage requirements under PERM follow DOL standards, so employers must document that offered compensation meets the OFLC Wage Search threshold for the specific occupation and metro area.
What is the prevailing wage for Green Card news & publishing jobs in Minnesota?
U.S. employers sponsoring a visa must pay at least the prevailing wage, which is what workers in the same role, area, and experience level typically earn. The Department of Labor sets this rate to make sure companies aren't hiring foreign workers simply because they'd accept lower pay than a U.S. worker. It varies by job title, location, and experience. You can look up current prevailing wage rates for any occupation and location using the OFLC Wage Search page.
