Which legal companies sponsor Green Card visas in Minnesota?
Large law firms headquartered in Minneapolis, including Faegre Drinker Biddle & Reath and Fredrikson & Byron, have filed PERM labor certifications for attorneys and legal professionals. Corporate legal departments at Fortune 500 companies headquartered in Minnesota, such as Target, 3M, UnitedHealth Group, and General Mills, also sponsor Green Cards for in-house counsel and compliance roles. Mid-size regional firms occasionally sponsor, though it is less common than at large employers.
Which cities in Minnesota have the most legal Green Card sponsorship jobs?
Minneapolis and St. Paul together account for the overwhelming majority of legal Green Card sponsorship activity in Minnesota. The Twin Cities metro hosts the state's largest law firms, federal and state courts, and the corporate legal departments of most major Minnesota-headquartered companies. Rochester sees some demand driven by Mayo Clinic's legal and compliance teams. Bloomington and Minnetonka have smaller but active corporate legal markets tied to insurance and financial services employers.
What types of legal roles typically qualify for Green Card sponsorship in Minnesota?
Roles requiring a Juris Doctor or specialized legal degree are the most common Green Card sponsorship candidates. These include associate attorneys, IP counsel, corporate counsel, compliance officers, and contract attorneys at large firms or corporate legal departments. Paralegals with specialized credentials and legal operations roles tied to technology or data privacy are also sponsored by some employers. USCIS typically requires demonstrating that the position meets specialty occupation or PERM labor market criteria.
How do I find legal Green Card sponsorship jobs in Minnesota?
Migrate Mate lets you filter specifically for legal jobs in Minnesota where employers have verified Green Card sponsorship history, saving significant research time. You can narrow results by role type, such as associate attorney or in-house counsel, and review which Twin Cities employers have active PERM filings. Because PERM labor certification requires employers to document recruitment efforts, Migrate Mate surfaces employers with established sponsorship processes rather than those sponsoring for the first time.
Are there state-specific considerations for Green Card sponsorship in legal roles in Minnesota?
Minnesota does not impose state-level restrictions on employer-sponsored Green Cards, but the state's bar admission requirements are relevant for attorney roles. Foreign-trained lawyers seeking sponsored positions at Minnesota firms typically need to confirm whether their credentials satisfy the state bar's foreign law graduate eligibility rules before an employer will commit to sponsorship. Employers in Minnesota's legal sector also tend to initiate PERM filings earlier for associates on visa-dependent status given longer PERM processing timelines at the DOL.
What is the prevailing wage for Green Card legal jobs in Minnesota?
U.S. employers sponsoring a visa must pay at least the prevailing wage, which is what workers in the same role, area, and experience level typically earn. The Department of Labor sets this rate to make sure companies aren't hiring foreign workers simply because they'd accept lower pay than a U.S. worker. It varies by job title, location, and experience. You can look up current prevailing wage rates for any occupation and location using the OFLC Wage Search page.
