WSP is currently initiating a search for a Full-Time Geologist for our Canton, MS office.
In this role you will be a part of the Site Investigation & Remediation business unit, supporting environmental projects that involve field studies, report preparation, budget management, and interaction with coworkers, clients, subcontractors, and regulators. Projects will include groundwater, surface water, soil, and air sampling; environmental site assessments; regulatory permitting; subsurface site characterizations involving drilling, and soil classification; and hazardous waste site characterization and remediation.
Your Impact
- Under general supervision, conduct routine field work including drilling oversight, geologic logging, well installation, sampling of various media, hydrogeologic testing and other assignments as designated.
- Maintain quality control standards and procedures for accurate and precise measurements.
- Generate complete, accurate, and concise documentation using electronic systems and field/work site notebook.
- Prepare data and visualizations such as tables, charts, reports, models, cross-sections, boring logs, and figures for the interpretation and/or presentation of data, findings, and/or analyses.
- Comply with safety guidelines and site-specific procedures which include, but are not limited to, the maintenance of sample collection, location data, laboratory documentation, and logbooks.
- Utilize the latest technologies and techniques in performing studies and analysis of organic and inorganic compounds to determine their composition.
- Complete training on assigned tasks.
- Exercise responsible and ethical decision-making regarding company funds, resources and conduct, and adhere to WSP’s Code of Conduct and related policies and procedures.
- Perform additional responsibilities as required by business needs.
Who You Are
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor’s Degree in Geology, Hydrogeology, or closely related discipline.
- 1 to 3 years of experience working as a Geologist.
- The ability to obtain professional licensure in Mississippi (PG).
- Familiar with relevant environmental laws, regulations, compliance practices, and record-keeping requirements.
- Ability to operate, troubleshoot, and maintain field testing and monitoring equipment.
- Safely operate a motor vehicle on behalf of the company.
- Excellent research skills with analytical mindset.
- Competent interpersonal and communication skills when interacting with others, expressing ideas effectively and professionally to a scientific and non-scientific audience.
- Ability to work independently under general supervision, as well as part of a team to meet business objectives.
- The selected candidate must have the ability to work in the United States immediately.
- Must be able to pass a HAZWOPER physical. This role is subject to a client-mandated drug/alcohol testing policy. As such, employee may be subject to random drug/alcohol tests. A copy of this policy will be provided during employee onboarding and is available upon applicant request.
Preferred Qualifications:
- A Master’s degree in Geology, Hydrogeology, or closely related discipline.
- Experience performing soil logging.
- Experience performing soil, sediment, soil gas, and/or groundwater sampling.
- Familiarity with various drilling techniques and experience with installation of groundwater monitoring and/or remediation wells.
- Experience with software such as AutoCAD and ArcGIS a plus.
- Experience with groundwater and plume modeling software, such as Surfer.
- 40-Hour OSHA Health & Safety Training (HAZWOPER) (29 CFR 1910.120)
