Which companies sponsor visas for back end developers in Missouri?
Several large Missouri employers have a documented history of sponsoring work visas for back end developers. Oracle Health (formerly Cerner) in Kansas City, Edward Jones and Centene in St. Louis, and Mastercard's regional technology teams are among the most active. Mid-size software companies and healthcare IT firms in both cities also file H-1B petitions regularly for engineering roles.
Which visa types are most common for back end developer roles in Missouri?
The H-1B is the most common visa for back end developers in Missouri, as software development consistently qualifies as a specialty occupation requiring at least a bachelor's degree in computer science or a related field. Candidates already holding an OPT EAD or STEM OPT extension can begin work while an H-1B petition is pending. L-1B visas are also used when a developer transfers from a foreign office of the same employer.
Which cities in Missouri have the most back end developer sponsorship jobs?
Kansas City and St. Louis generate the vast majority of back end developer sponsorship opportunities in Missouri. Kansas City's healthcare IT sector, anchored by Oracle Health, drives significant engineering demand. St. Louis has a broader mix, with financial technology firms, insurance technology companies, and enterprise software employers all actively hiring. Smaller markets like Columbia and Springfield have fewer openings but some university-affiliated and regional tech employers.
How to find back end developer visa sponsorship jobs in Missouri?
Migrate Mate is built specifically for international candidates searching for visa sponsorship roles, including back end developer positions in Missouri. You can filter by state and role to surface employers who have sponsored visas for similar positions. Focusing your search on Kansas City and St. Louis will return the highest volume of relevant results, particularly in healthcare IT, fintech, and enterprise software.
Are there any Missouri-specific considerations for back end developers seeking visa sponsorship?
Missouri's two dominant tech hubs operate in different industries, which affects sponsorship patterns. Kansas City employers lean heavily toward healthcare IT and logistics technology, meaning back end roles there often require familiarity with healthcare data standards or API-driven systems. St. Louis skews toward financial services and insurance technology. Missouri also has several universities, including Washington University and the University of Missouri, that feed engineering talent pipelines and sometimes partner with regional employers on OPT-to-H-1B transitions.
What is the prevailing wage for sponsored back end developer jobs in Missouri?
U.S. employers sponsoring a visa must pay at least the prevailing wage, which is what workers in the same role, area, and experience level typically earn. The Department of Labor sets this rate to make sure companies aren't hiring foreign workers simply because they'd accept lower pay than a U.S. worker. It varies by job title, location, and experience. You can look up current prevailing wage rates for any occupation and location using the OFLC Wage Search page.
