Search Technology Jobs in NebraskaTechnology Jobs in Nebraska: Frequently Asked Questions
Which technology companies in Nebraska sponsor visas for international workers?
Major technology employers in Nebraska that sponsor work visas include TD Ameritrade (now Charles Schwab), Union Pacific Corporation, Mutual of Omaha, and First National Bank of Omaha. These companies frequently hire software engineers, data scientists, and IT specialists on H-1B visas. Emerging fintech startups in Omaha's growing tech district also provide sponsorship opportunities for specialized roles.
How to find technology visa sponsorship jobs in Nebraska?
Use Migrate Mate to search specifically for technology roles in Nebraska that offer visa sponsorship. The platform filters positions by visa type and highlights employers with proven sponsorship history. Focus your search on Omaha and Lincoln, where most technology companies are headquartered, and target fintech and insurance technology sectors where Nebraska companies particularly need international talent.
What visa types are most common for technology workers in Nebraska?
H-1B visas dominate technology sponsorship in Nebraska, particularly for software engineering, data analysis, and cybersecurity roles. O-1 visas are less common but used by fintech companies for exceptional talent in financial technology. TN visas serve Canadian and Mexican nationals in software development positions, while L-1 visas support intracompany transfers to Nebraska operations of multinational corporations.
Which Nebraska cities offer the most technology visa sponsorship opportunities?
Omaha leads Nebraska's technology visa sponsorship market, hosting major employers like TD Ameritrade, Union Pacific, and numerous fintech startups in the downtown tech district. Lincoln follows with opportunities at university-affiliated research companies and state government technology contractors. Grand Island and Kearney have limited but growing opportunities, primarily in agricultural technology and manufacturing software development.
How do Nebraska's prevailing wages affect technology visa applications?
Nebraska's lower cost of living results in prevailing wages that are typically 15-25% below coastal technology hubs, making it easier for employers to meet H-1B wage requirements. The Department of Labor's wage determinations for software engineers and data analysts in Omaha and Lincoln are competitive enough to attract international talent while remaining cost-effective for Nebraska employers seeking visa sponsorship candidates.
What is the prevailing wage for sponsored technology jobs in Nebraska?
U.S. employers sponsoring a visa must pay at least the prevailing wage, which is what workers in the same role, area, and experience level typically earn. The Department of Labor sets this rate to make sure companies aren't hiring foreign workers simply because they'd accept lower pay than a U.S. worker. It varies by job title, location, and experience. You can look up current prevailing wage rates for any occupation and location using the OFLC Wage Search page.
