Job Description
The Network Security Architect will design and build the network security architecture our environment runs on, from firewall and segmentation design through cloud network architecture, and will stay engaged through implementation alongside engineering, not hand off a design and move on.
The Network Security Architect role sits within the Chief Information Security Officer Office, reporting to the Director of Security Architecture and Engineering (SA&E).
Essential Functions
-
Designs network security architecture from the ground up: firewall policy and configuration, network segmentation, Zero Trust access design, and cloud network architecture in Microsoft Azure.
-
Leads technical migrations end to end: assesses the current environment, designs the target state, builds the configuration, and manages the cutover.
-
Works directly alongside engineering through the build and implementation phase of every project they design, adjusting the design in real time when engineering encounters something the design did not account for. This role is expected to close the gap between architecture and engineering, not operate on one side of it.
-
Reviews existing network security architecture, identifies gaps, and designs the remediation, including hands on work to resolve technical debt in legacy configurations.
-
Assesses, scopes, and estimates the work and hours required to deliver security architecture components of larger projects and programs.
-
Serves as the technical expert and trusted advisor to engineering, IT, and business partners on network security design questions.
-
Documents and diagrams architecture in both conceptual and physical form, including the underlying configuration, not just high level diagrams.
-
Works assigned Request Security Architecture (RSA) tickets and related efforts in ServiceNow.
-
Stays current on emerging network security technologies and threats and incorporates them into architecture as needed.
Additional Responsibilities
- Performs other duties as assigned.
Skills and Abilities

Demonstrated ability to take a loosely defined problem, perform the discovery work independently, and produce an implementable design, not just a conceptual recommendation.
-
Advanced, hands on knowledge of network technologies: protocols, design concepts, segmentation, and access control.
-
Advanced, hands on knowledge of security technologies: encryption, data protection, access privilege design.
-
Direct configuration experience with firewall platforms, not solely policy or diagram level experience.
-
Comfortable working side by side with engineers through build and cutover, including off hours implementation windows when required.
-
Strong communication skills, able to explain technical design decisions clearly to both engineers and non technical stakeholders.
Qualifications

Which companies in Nevada sponsor visas for technical architects?
The strongest sponsorship activity for technical architects in Nevada comes from large hospitality and gaming corporations, including MGM Resorts International, Caesars Entertainment, and Wynn Resorts, all of which maintain substantial technology divisions in Las Vegas. Switch, a major data center operator headquartered in Las Vegas, is another consistent sponsor. Reno's growing tech cluster, anchored by companies like Tesla's Gigafactory and several cloud infrastructure firms, also generates sponsorship opportunities.
Which visa types are most common for technical architect roles in Nevada?
The H-1B is the most commonly used visa for technical architect roles in Nevada, as the position typically qualifies as a specialty occupation requiring a relevant bachelor's degree or higher in computer science, software engineering, or a related field. Canadian and Mexican nationals frequently use the TN visa under the USMCA treaty. Experienced architects with international recognition may also qualify for the O-1A visa based on extraordinary ability.
How to find technical architect visa sponsorship jobs in Nevada?
Migrate Mate is the most direct way to find technical architect visa sponsorship jobs in Nevada. The platform filters specifically for roles where employers have a documented history of sponsoring work visas, so you're not wasting applications on companies that won't support sponsorship. You can narrow results to Nevada cities, making it straightforward to target Las Vegas or Reno employers actively hiring architects.
Which cities in Nevada have the most technical architect sponsorship jobs?
Las Vegas accounts for the majority of technical architect sponsorship opportunities in Nevada, driven by the city's large hospitality technology operations, data centers, and an expanding fintech and startup scene. Reno is the clear second market, with manufacturing technology roles at Tesla and other advanced manufacturing firms supplementing a smaller but active tech employer base. Henderson, adjacent to Las Vegas, also hosts several technology company offices that periodically sponsor architects.
Are there any Nevada-specific considerations for technical architects seeking visa sponsorship?
Nevada's technical architect hiring is heavily shaped by the gaming and hospitality industry, which means many roles involve compliance-sensitive systems, 24/7 infrastructure requirements, and familiarity with regulated data environments. Employers filing H-1B petitions must pay the Department of Labor's prevailing wage for the Las Vegas or Reno metropolitan area, which differs from national averages. The University of Nevada, Las Vegas and University of Nevada, Reno produce local engineering graduates, but employer demand consistently exceeds that pipeline, keeping sponsorship activity steady.
What is the prevailing wage for sponsored technical architect jobs in Nevada?
U.S. employers sponsoring a visa must pay at least the prevailing wage, which is what workers in the same role, area, and experience level typically earn. The Department of Labor sets this rate to make sure companies aren't hiring foreign workers simply because they'd accept lower pay than a U.S. worker. It varies by job title, location, and experience. You can look up current prevailing wage rates for any occupation and location using the OFLC Wage Search page.
