Which companies sponsor visas for research roles in New Hampshire?
Academic institutions lead sponsorship in New Hampshire, with Dartmouth College and the University of New Hampshire regularly filing H-1B visa petitions for research scientists and postdoctoral researchers. On the private side, defense and advanced manufacturing companies in the Nashua area, including BAE Systems and firms in the Millyard innovation district in Manchester, have histories of sponsoring research-focused roles.
Which visa types are most common for research roles in New Hampshire?
The H-1B is the most common visa for research positions requiring a specialized degree, covering roles like research scientist, data scientist, and research engineer. Academic and nonprofit research institutions can also file H-1B petitions outside the annual cap, which is a significant advantage for postdoctoral and faculty-track researchers at universities like Dartmouth or UNH. O-1A visas appear for researchers with distinguished publication records or grants.
Which cities in New Hampshire have the most research sponsorship jobs?
Hanover is a consistent source of research sponsorship due to Dartmouth College and its affiliated research centers. Durham, home to the University of New Hampshire, is another hub for academic research hiring. Manchester and Nashua concentrate private-sector research activity, particularly in defense technology, semiconductors, and engineering, making them the strongest markets outside academia for sponsored research roles.
How to find research visa sponsorship jobs in New Hampshire?
Migrate Mate filters job listings specifically by visa sponsorship availability, making it straightforward to browse research roles in New Hampshire without sorting through positions that won't support international candidates. You can filter by research-related job categories and narrow results to New Hampshire employers, surfacing openings at universities, biotech firms, and defense contractors that have actively filed for H-1B and similar work visas.
Are there any state-specific considerations for research visa sponsorship in New Hampshire?
New Hampshire has no state income tax, which affects prevailing wage comparisons since take-home pay differs from neighboring states, though federal prevailing wage standards still apply for H-1B filings. Researchers should also note that New Hampshire's university research pipelines are closely tied to federal grants from agencies like NIH and NSF, meaning sponsorship capacity at academic employers can fluctuate with federal funding cycles.
What is the prevailing wage for sponsored research jobs in New Hampshire?
U.S. employers sponsoring a visa must pay at least the prevailing wage, which is what workers in the same role, area, and experience level typically earn. The Department of Labor sets this rate to make sure companies aren't hiring foreign workers simply because they'd accept lower pay than a U.S. worker. It varies by job title, location, and experience. You can look up current prevailing wage rates for any occupation and location using the OFLC Wage Search page.
