Which aerospace & defense companies sponsor F-1 OPT visas in New Jersey?
Several aerospace and defense contractors operating in New Jersey have histories of hiring F-1 OPT candidates, including L3Harris Technologies in Camden, Curtiss-Wright in Parsippany, and Lockheed Martin in Moorestown. Smaller defense subcontractors and engineering services firms along the Route 1 corridor also participate in OPT hiring, particularly for engineering and systems roles. Sponsorship availability varies by role, headcount, and project funding cycles.
Which cities in New Jersey have the most aerospace & defense F-1 OPT sponsorship jobs?
Moorestown and Mount Laurel in Burlington County are among the strongest concentrations, anchored by Lockheed Martin's naval systems operations. Parsippany, Cherry Hill, and Linden also host defense contractors and aerospace suppliers. The Route 1 technology corridor between Princeton and New Brunswick draws engineering-focused defense firms, giving OPT candidates multiple geographic clusters to target within the state.
What types of aerospace & defense roles typically qualify for F-1 OPT sponsorship?
Roles that directly apply a candidate's degree field are the most common fit for F-1 OPT in aerospace and defense. These include systems engineering, electrical and mechanical engineering, software development for embedded systems, radar and signal processing, avionics testing, and quality assurance engineering. Many New Jersey defense contractors also hire for aerospace manufacturing process engineering and program management support roles tied to specific degree disciplines.
How do I find aerospace & defense F-1 OPT sponsorship jobs in New Jersey?
Migrate Mate is built specifically for international students and filters jobs by visa type, so you can search F-1 OPT-eligible aerospace and defense roles in New Jersey without sorting through listings that don't apply to your status. Because many defense contractors post sponsorship-eligible roles without labeling them clearly, using a platform like Migrate Mate that organizes by visa category saves significant time and reduces the risk of applying to roles your OPT authorization won't cover.
Are there any state-specific or industry-specific considerations for F-1 OPT in New Jersey aerospace & defense?
New Jersey's concentration of Department of Defense contractors means many roles involve access to classified facilities or ITAR-controlled projects. Some positions require U.S. citizenship or permanent residency for security clearance, which makes them unavailable to F-1 OPT holders. Candidates should confirm a role has no clearance requirement before applying. New Jersey also has a dense network of Rutgers and NJIT alumni in the defense sector, which can support networking with sponsoring employers.
