Work Model
Hybrid / Remote
Experience
8+ years
Employment Type
Full-time
Position Summary
We are seeking a Senior Engineer to own the technical implementation, architecture and support of interactive 3D product-configuration experiences — and, critically, their integration into the enterprise product-data and order ecosystem. This is not a rendering-only role. Success depends equally on a high-fidelity 3D front end and on translating each customer configuration into a correct, orderable SKU, Bill of Materials and price within SAP S/4HANA.
You will be the primary engineering owner for the configurator platform (Drive Commerce / WebGL) and its connections to the commerce platform (Salesforce Commerce Cloud), product lifecycle management (Centric PLM), the PIM / MDM layer (Precisely EnterWorks), integration middleware (webMethods), and downstream order management and fulfillment (Manhattan / WMS). In short: you make sure that what the customer configures on screen is exactly what gets priced, ordered, manufactured and shipped.
Key Responsibilities
3D Configurator Engineering
- Configurator ownership — Own end-to-end development of interactive 3D web configurators built on the Drive Commerce plugin-based JavaScript / WebGL framework (Three.js and / or Babylon.js).
- Performance — Deliver responsive, performant experiences across mobile and desktop against defined performance budgets for load time, frame rate and memory.
- Stability — Diagnose and resolve rendering, texture and canvas issues, including browser memory leaks and WebGL context loss.
- Technical leadership — Lead architecture, code review and feature delivery for real-time product personalization.
Configuration-to-Order Integration (core to this role)
- Recipe SAP — Design and maintain the mapping from a customer’s 3D “recipe” to a valid, orderable outcome in SAP S/4HANA — resolving each configuration to the correct material / SKU, Bill of Materials and price, using SAP variant configuration / configurable materials and made-to-order flows as applicable.
- Master-data sync — Keep the configurator’s variant / option matrix in sync with master data governed in Centric PLM and Precisely EnterWorks, so options, prices and availability stay accurate.
- End-to-end flow — Build and maintain integrations across the commerce platform, middleware (webMethods / APIs), OMS and fulfillment (Manhattan), delivering accurate build sheets, pick lists and BOMs to manufacturing.
- Availability logic — Implement made-to-order availability and lead-time logic in the configuration experience (finished-product availability and lead times, not raw-material inventory).
Data, Pricing & Accuracy
- Data contracts — Establish stable data contracts (JSON payloads, catalog indexes, option and price models) between the front end and back-end systems.
- Accuracy — Ensure price and SKU accuracy end to end, so the configured price and product match what is ordered, invoiced and manufactured.
- Color fidelity — Implement ICC-based color management so on-screen color matches the manufactured product across materials, thread, print and engraving.
- Moderation — Implement personalization safeguards — profanity and trademark / brand moderation on custom text and uploaded logos.
Asset & Pipeline Collaboration
- Asset workflows — Partner with 3D design / asset teams (internal or agency) to translate high-fidelity CAD / mesh assets into optimized web assets, communicating payload, texture and performance constraints. Deep 3D artistry and shader authoring are a plus, not the primary function of this role.
- Versioning — Maintain versioned asset and configuration pipelines with clear release control.
Quality, Performance & Support
- Metrics — Define and monitor performance and quality metrics (Core Web Vitals, frame rate, error rates, uptime) and act on regressions.
- Accessibility — Ensure configurator experiences meet accessibility standards (WCAG 2.x).
- Reusability — Drive reusability through modular components, presets and templates; support documentation, onboarding and engineering standards.
- Support — Provide production support for the configurator and its integrations.
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering or a related technical discipline, or equivalent professional experience.
- 8+ years of professional software engineering experience, including significant e-commerce storefront and / or product-configurator development.
- Hands-on experience with web-based 3D graphics — WebGL with Three.js and / or Babylon.js — including performance optimization and browser memory management.
- Demonstrated experience integrating a storefront or configurator with enterprise back-end systems — ERP (ideally SAP), PLM and / or PIM / MDM — covering product master data, pricing and BOM / order flows. This is the key differentiator for the role.
- Strong JavaScript / TypeScript and modern front-end framework experience (React or Next.js; Vue acceptable), REST / GraphQL API design and state management.
- Experience delivering complex visual and commerce software within cross-functional agile teams.
Preferred / Strongly Desired
- Drive Commerce Customizer / 3D Configurator Platform and Drive Recipe API, or a comparable configurator platform.
- Salesforce Commerce Cloud (SFRA / OCAPI / cartridges), or an equivalent enterprise commerce platform.
- SAP integration experience — variant configuration / configurable materials, material master, pricing and BOM; integration middleware such as web Methods.
- Centric PLM and / or Precisely Enter Works, or comparable PLM / PIM / MDM platforms.
- Manhattan or comparable WMS / order-fulfillment integration.
- ICC color management and personalization / customization commerce experience (imprint, embroidery, engraving, monogramming).
Technical Skills
- Front-end & 3D: JavaScript / TypeScript, WebGL, Three.js / Babylon.js, React / Next.js, shaders and materials (working knowledge), responsive UX, browser performance profiling.
- Integration & data: REST / GraphQL APIs, JSON / XML transforms, event and middleware patterns (webMethods or similar), product-data and SKU / variant modeling, pricing models.
- Commerce & ERP: SFCC (or equivalent), SAP product and order concepts (variant configuration, material master, BOM, pricing), OMS / WMS order flows.
- Tooling: Git / GitHub, Jira, CI / CD (Azure DevOps or similar), Webpack / Vite, Postman; AI-assisted development tools (e.g., GitHub Copilot).
Preferred Certifications
- Salesforce Certified B2C Commerce Developer.
- Relevant 3D / WebGL or cloud developer certifications (e.g., AWS or Azure Associate).
- Certified Scrum Master (CSM).
Success Measures (first 6–12 months)
- Performance — The configurator meets performance targets — Largest Contentful Paint and Core Web Vitals within target on mid-tier mobile, and a stable target frame rate under full option load.
- Configuration-to-order accuracy — A defined, high percentage of configurations resolve to the correct SAP material / SKU, BOM and price with no manual correction.
- Price accuracy — The configured price matches the ordered and invoiced price.
- Reliability — Low configurator error and defect rates in production, and high uptime for the configurator and its integrations.
- Fidelity & safeguards — On-screen color matches manufactured output within agreed tolerance, and personalization moderation prevents disallowed content.
- Scalability — Reusable components and clear documentation reduce time-to-launch for new configurable products.
Core Competencies
- Bridges front-end 3D engineering and enterprise commerce / ERP integration.
- Strong systems thinking across product data, pricing and order flows.
- Performance and memory debugging in the browser.
- Clear communication with creative, commerce and ERP / data teams.
- Ownership of and accountability for accuracy from configuration to manufactured product.
- Rapidly learns and integrates new interactive and integration technologies.

Which companies in New Jersey sponsor visas for product engineers?
Johnson and Johnson, Merck, Becton Dickinson, and Honeywell are among the most active H-1B visa sponsors for product engineers in New Jersey, based on Department of Labor LCA disclosure data. Financial services firms in Jersey City, including those with large technology divisions, also file regularly for product engineering roles. Larger multinationals tend to have established immigration infrastructure, making them more consistent sponsors than smaller firms.
What visa types are most common for product engineers in New Jersey?
The H-1B is the most common work visa for product engineers in New Jersey, as the role typically qualifies as a specialty occupation requiring a bachelor's degree or higher in engineering, computer science, or a related field. Candidates with Canadian or Mexican citizenship may qualify for TN visa status under the USMCA. Extraordinary ability candidates may pursue the O-1 visa, though that category requires documented peer recognition.
Which cities in New Jersey have the most product engineer sponsorship jobs?
Jersey City and Newark generate strong demand from financial technology and logistics companies given their proximity to New York City. The Route 1 corridor, spanning New Brunswick, Princeton, and Bridgewater, is a dense concentration of pharmaceutical and medical device employers that regularly hire product engineers. Parsippany and Florham Park also have notable corporate campuses with active engineering headcount.
How to find product engineer visa sponsorship jobs in New Jersey?
Migrate Mate filters job listings specifically by visa sponsorship availability, making it straightforward to find product engineer roles in New Jersey without sorting through positions that don't support international candidates. You can search by state and role type to surface openings from pharma, medtech, and technology employers actively filing LCAs in New Jersey. Checking listings regularly helps since sponsorship-eligible roles in this state move quickly.
Are there any New Jersey-specific factors that affect product engineer visa sponsorship?
New Jersey's concentration of pharmaceutical and life sciences employers means product engineers here often need domain-specific credentials, and employers may require degree alignment with the role during the H-1B specialty occupation assessment. Rutgers University and NJIT supply a significant share of local engineering talent, so international candidates should be prepared for competitive applicant pools. Prevailing wage compliance under DOL rules applies statewide, and wages are benchmarked to the specific work location.
What is the prevailing wage for sponsored product engineer jobs in New Jersey?
U.S. employers sponsoring a visa must pay at least the prevailing wage, which is what workers in the same role, area, and experience level typically earn. The Department of Labor sets this rate to make sure companies aren't hiring foreign workers simply because they'd accept lower pay than a U.S. worker. It varies by job title, location, and experience. You can look up current prevailing wage rates for any occupation and location using the OFLC Wage Search page.
