Which companies sponsor visas for controls technicians in New York?
Large automation and building systems companies with established New York operations are the most active sponsors. Siemens, Honeywell, Johnson Controls, and ABB have filed Labor Condition Applications for controls technician roles in New York. Utilities and energy firms operating in the state, along with semiconductor and advanced manufacturing facilities Upstate, also sponsor this role with some regularity.
Which visa types are most common for controls technician roles in New York?
The H-1B visa is the most common visa for controls technicians in New York, provided the role qualifies as a specialty occupation requiring a relevant bachelor's degree in engineering or a related field. The O-1A is an option for technicians with documented extraordinary achievements. Candidates from Canada or Mexico may qualify for the TN visa under the USMCA's engineer category, depending on their credentials.
Which cities in New York have the most controls technician sponsorship jobs?
New York City and its surrounding metro area generate the most controls technician sponsorship activity, particularly in building automation and facilities management. Buffalo, Rochester, and Albany have meaningful concentrations tied to manufacturing, energy, and semiconductor expansion, including TSMC-related supply chain growth Upstate. Syracuse also sees demand through defense and industrial automation employers in the region.
How to find controls technician visa sponsorship jobs in New York?
Migrate Mate filters job listings specifically by visa sponsorship availability, making it straightforward to browse controls technician roles in New York without sifting through positions that don't offer sponsorship. You can narrow results by location and role to focus on employers actively hiring internationally. Migrate Mate's job board is updated regularly, reflecting current openings across New York's automation, energy, and manufacturing sectors.
Are there state-specific factors that affect controls technician sponsorship in New York?
New York's prevailing wage requirements under DOL rules apply to H-1B petitions, and employers must certify they're meeting the applicable wage level for the specific work location, which varies between New York City and Upstate regions. The state's ongoing investment in semiconductor manufacturing and clean energy infrastructure has increased demand for controls technicians, which can improve sponsorship availability compared to states with less industrial expansion.
What is the prevailing wage for sponsored controls technician jobs in New York?
U.S. employers sponsoring a visa must pay at least the prevailing wage, which is what workers in the same role, area, and experience level typically earn. The Department of Labor sets this rate to make sure companies aren't hiring foreign workers simply because they'd accept lower pay than a U.S. worker. It varies by job title, location, and experience. You can look up current prevailing wage rates for any occupation and location using the OFLC Wage Search page.
