Which marketing and advertising companies sponsor J-1 visas in New York?
New York is home to the global headquarters or major U.S. offices of several large advertising holding companies, including WPP, Publicis Groupe, Interpublic Group, and Omnicom Group, all of which have sponsored J-1 trainees and interns historically. Boutique digital agencies and in-house marketing teams at media conglomerates also participate in J-1 programs, though sponsorship varies by company and program year.
Which cities in New York have the most marketing and advertising J-1 sponsorship jobs?
Manhattan accounts for the large majority of marketing and advertising J-1 opportunities in New York, particularly Midtown and Lower Manhattan where agency holding companies and large brand teams cluster. Brooklyn has a growing concentration of digital and creative agencies. Albany, Buffalo, and Rochester have smaller agency markets with fewer J-1 sponsorship positions in this industry.
What types of marketing and advertising roles typically qualify for J-1 sponsorship?
J-1 intern and trainee programs in marketing and advertising commonly include roles in market research, digital marketing analytics, brand management, media planning, account coordination, content strategy, and advertising operations. The role must align with the participant's field of study or recent professional experience. Purely operational or administrative positions without a clear learning component are generally not appropriate for J-1 designation.
How do I find marketing and advertising J-1 sponsorship jobs in New York?
Migrate Mate surfaces marketing and advertising positions in New York filtered by J-1 sponsorship eligibility, so you can search specifically for employers with active J-1 programs rather than manually contacting agencies to ask about their sponsorship capacity. Filtering by industry and location gives you a focused list of New York employers who have demonstrated willingness to sponsor J-1 candidates in marketing and advertising roles.
Are there state-specific considerations for J-1 marketing and advertising jobs in New York?
New York State labor regulations apply to J-1 participants working in the state, including minimum wage requirements and anti-discrimination protections. New York City's additional employment laws, such as the Freelance Isn't Free Act and pay transparency requirements, may intersect with J-1 trainee agreements depending on the program structure. J-1 participants should confirm that their designated sponsor organization has reviewed the program for compliance with both federal and New York State requirements.
