INTRODUCTION
Youth sports offer important life lessons that propel kids toward meaningful futures, including a sense of family and community. GameChanger by DICK’S Sporting Goods works to connect families via live video streaming of games, scorekeeping and team communication tools for more than half a million teams. We are a remote-first, dynamic tech company based in New York City intent on improving youth sports for all and developing our own teammates.
Overview:
About GameChanger:
At GameChanger, we help the youth sports community Live the Game Like Never Before.
We believe youth sports change lives — on and off the field — and we're building the home of youth sports to support every coach, athlete, family member, and fan along the way. Every product decision we make is designed to elevate the next generation through sports.
We are a remote-first, dynamic technology company based in New York City solving meaningful challenges across youth sports — and this summer, we're bringing together a highly intentional cohort of interns to help build what's next.
About the Internship Program:
Our Summer 2026 Internship Program is a 10-week, fully onsite experience in NYC (June 1–August 7, 2026). This is not a shadowing program. As a GameChanger intern, you'll:
- Work on real, high-impact projects
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams
- Be paired with a dedicated mentor
- Build and ship meaningful work
- Present your results during our Final Demo Day
We've intentionally designed a smaller cohort (12 interns) to provide strong mentorship, meaningful ownership, and real exposure to how we build and ship at scale.
The Position:
As a Software Engineering Intern, you'll build and ship new features in our Subscriptions system. Projects may include extending our new discounts and promotions system or improving how we monitor the platform (events, logging, metrics, and alerts). You'll also help improve the web sign-up experience so new users can get started and become subscribers more easily. You'll have opportunities to run A/B experiments to make the experience clearer and faster, and help increase conversion through the flow. We use TypeScript, NodeJS, and React to build our services and web experiences. You'll report to a Senior Engineer on the Subscriptions Enablement team.
What You'll Work On:
You'll take ownership of clearly scoped, high-impact work. Depending on your team, this may include:
- Implement plan-based promo validation in our Subscriptions system to unlock plan-specific offers
- Move the conversion needle by running A/B tests in pricing and checkout and helping roll out the winning variant
- Build end-to-end Playwright tests for critical subscription flows to catch regressions early and keep releases safe as we iterate quickly
- Make checkout faster by improving page and API performance to reduce drop-off and frustration
You'll collaborate closely with teammates and stakeholders, receive consistent feedback, and contribute work that drives measurable impact.
BASIC QUALIFICATIONS
- Currently pursuing a Bachelor's or MBA degree in Computer Science
- Experience with TypeScript, NodeJS and React
- Demonstrated experience in building end-to-end web features
- Exposure to SQL, A/B Testing, Jest and Playwright
- Ability to independently scope and execute defined work with support
WHAT YOU'LL GAIN:
- 10 weeks of hands-on experience on a product used by millions.
- $55 per hour pay for your contributions.
- Housing in Manhattan covered by GameChanger.
- Round-trip travel to/from NYC covered.
- A MacBook for the duration of the internship.
- Mentorship from experienced leaders.
- Exposure to executive leadership.
- The opportunity to be considered for future full-time roles.

Which retail companies sponsor J-1 visas in New York?
Large department stores and national retail chains operating in New York are among the most consistent participants in J-1 cultural exchange programs. Employers like Macy's, Bloomingdale's, Saks Fifth Avenue, and Nordstrom have locations across Manhattan and the outer boroughs where international trainees and interns have historically been placed. Luxury brands with flagship stores on Fifth Avenue and in SoHo also participate, though availability varies by program cycle and employer.
Which cities in New York have the most retail J-1 sponsorship jobs?
Manhattan concentrates the highest volume of retail J-1 sponsorship opportunities, particularly in Midtown, SoHo, and the Upper East Side, where flagship stores and luxury boutiques are densest. Brooklyn has a growing retail presence with opportunities in areas like Williamsburg and DUMBO. White Plains and other Westchester County locations also host major retail employers, offering options outside the city core for J-1 participants.
What types of retail roles typically qualify for J-1 sponsorship?
J-1 retail positions most commonly fall under the Intern or Trainee categories, meaning the role must offer structured learning tied to a participant's field of study or prior professional experience. Qualifying roles typically include retail management training, visual merchandising, buying and planning, and store operations. General sales associate positions without a structured training component are less likely to qualify, as the J-1 program requires substantive educational or professional development content.
How do I find retail J-1 sponsorship jobs in New York?
Migrate Mate is a job board built specifically for international candidates seeking visa sponsorship in the U.S., including retail J-1 roles in New York. You can filter directly by visa type and state to see current openings from employers who have indicated J-1 sponsorship availability. Searching Migrate Mate for New York retail positions is more targeted than general job boards, since listings are curated for candidates who need sponsorship rather than those with existing U.S. work authorization.
Are there state-specific considerations for retail J-1 sponsorship in New York?
New York has some of the strongest worker protection laws in the country, and J-1 participants are covered by state labor standards including minimum wage requirements and anti-discrimination protections. New York City's retail calendar is shaped by events like New York Fashion Week and the holiday shopping season, which can influence when employers recruit J-1 interns and trainees. Participants should also note that New York City's cost of living is high, and program stipends or compensation must comply with both federal J-1 program rules and state wage laws.
