Which companies sponsor visas for physical therapists in New York?
Major health systems including NYU Langone Health, NewYork-Presbyterian, Mount Sinai Health System, and Northwell Health have histories of sponsoring international physical therapists. Outpatient rehab chains and long-term care facilities operating across the state also file sponsorship petitions. Sponsorship is more common at large hospital networks than at small private clinics, which often lack the HR infrastructure to manage the process.
Which visa types are most common for physical therapist roles in New York?
Most international physical therapists enter the U.S. workforce through the H-1B visa, which requires employer sponsorship and is subject to an annual cap and lottery. EB-3 green card sponsorship through PERM labor certification is also a common pathway, particularly at hospitals and rehab facilities with consistent international hiring needs. Some facilities use the TN visa for Canadian and Mexican nationals who qualify under USMCA occupational categories.
Which cities in New York have the most physical therapist sponsorship jobs?
New York City accounts for the largest share of sponsored PT positions in the state, driven by the density of major hospital systems and outpatient clinics across Manhattan, Brooklyn, and Queens. Buffalo has a growing healthcare sector anchored by Kaleida Health and ECMC. Albany and Rochester also have notable PT employment through academic medical centers and regional health networks.
How to find physical therapist visa sponsorship jobs in New York?
Migrate Mate filters job listings specifically to roles where employers have a demonstrated history of visa sponsorship, making it straightforward to identify physical therapist positions in New York without sorting through listings from employers who don't sponsor. International PTs should confirm New York state licensure eligibility before applying, since sponsoring employers will expect licensure to be in place or actively in progress at the time of hire.
What state-specific considerations affect physical therapist sponsorship in New York?
New York requires physical therapists to hold a state license issued by the New York State Education Department, and international graduates must have their credentials evaluated by a recognized credentialing body such as FCCPT before applying. The state's prevailing wage requirements for sponsored positions are calculated using New York-specific DOL wage data, which reflects higher cost-of-living areas, particularly in New York City metro. These factors influence both the sponsorship timeline and the employer's willingness to initiate the process.
What is the prevailing wage for sponsored physical therapist jobs in New York?
U.S. employers sponsoring a visa must pay at least the prevailing wage, which is what workers in the same role, area, and experience level typically earn. The Department of Labor sets this rate to make sure companies aren't hiring foreign workers simply because they'd accept lower pay than a U.S. worker. It varies by job title, location, and experience. You can look up current prevailing wage rates for any occupation and location using the OFLC Wage Search page.
