Which companies sponsor visas for physical therapists in Illinois?
Illinois's largest health systems are the most active sponsors for physical therapists. Northwestern Medicine, Rush University Medical Center, Advocate Health Care, and OSF HealthCare have all filed H-1B Labor Condition Applications for therapy roles in recent OFLC disclosure data. Larger hospital networks and inpatient rehabilitation facilities tend to have established immigration processes, making them more accessible entry points than smaller private practices.
Which visa types are most common for physical therapist roles in Illinois?
The H-1B is the most common visa pathway for physical therapists in Illinois, as the role qualifies as a specialty occupation requiring at least a Doctor of Physical Therapy degree. Some therapists also enter through the EB-3 immigrant visa, which employers use when they want to sponsor a candidate for permanent residence. Canadian and Mexican nationals may qualify for TN status, which lists physical therapist as an eligible occupation and does not require lottery selection.
Which cities in Illinois have the most physical therapist sponsorship jobs?
Chicago and its northern suburbs account for the largest concentration of physical therapist sponsorship opportunities in Illinois, driven by the density of academic medical centers, rehabilitation hospitals, and outpatient networks. Rockford, Peoria, and Springfield represent secondary markets where regional health systems and federally qualified health centers also hire internationally, often with less competition than the Chicago metro for qualified candidates.
How to find physical therapist visa sponsorship jobs in Illinois?
Migrate Mate is built specifically for international job seekers and filters physical therapist roles in Illinois by visa sponsorship availability, so you are not sifting through listings that do not apply to your situation. The platform aggregates sponsored positions across Illinois health systems, outpatient clinics, and rehabilitation facilities. Filtering by Illinois and the physical therapist role on Migrate Mate surfaces employers who have an established history of sponsoring international candidates for this occupation.
Are there state-specific or role-specific factors physical therapists should know about working in Illinois?
Illinois requires physical therapists to hold a state license from the Illinois Department of Financial and Professional Regulation before practicing, and this step is separate from and additional to the immigration process. Foreign-trained therapists may also need credential evaluation through a recognized body before their degree is accepted for licensure. Employers in Illinois typically expect candidates to have passed or be eligible for the National Physical Therapy Examination, and sponsorship offers are usually contingent on active state licensure.
What is the prevailing wage for sponsored physical therapist jobs in Illinois?
U.S. employers sponsoring a visa must pay at least the prevailing wage, which is what workers in the same role, area, and experience level typically earn. The Department of Labor sets this rate to make sure companies aren't hiring foreign workers simply because they'd accept lower pay than a U.S. worker. It varies by job title, location, and experience. You can look up current prevailing wage rates for any occupation and location using the OFLC Wage Search page.
