Which companies sponsor visas for project accountants in New York?
Large construction and engineering firms are among the most consistent sponsors for project accountant roles in New York. Turner Construction, Skanska USA, AECOM, Lendlease, and Gilbane Building Company have established H-1B visa sponsorship histories in the state. Real estate development companies and infrastructure consultancies based in New York City also regularly sponsor project accountants, particularly for roles requiring cost control and contract accounting on large capital projects.
Which visa types are most common for project accountant roles in New York?
The H-1B visa is the most common sponsorship pathway for project accountants in New York. The role generally qualifies as a specialty occupation when a bachelor's degree in accounting, finance, or a related field is required. Some candidates with Canadian or Mexican citizenship pursue TN visas under the accountant category, which allows for a more streamlined process. Those with extraordinary achievements in finance may also explore the O-1A, though this is less common for standard project accounting roles.
Which cities in New York have the most project accountant sponsorship jobs?
New York City accounts for the large majority of project accountant sponsorship opportunities in the state, concentrated in Manhattan and the outer boroughs where major construction and real estate development activity is ongoing. Buffalo has a growing infrastructure and development sector, with some sponsorship activity tied to regional construction firms. Albany sees demand from state-funded capital projects and public infrastructure programs, though sponsorship volume there is lower than in NYC.
How to find project accountant visa sponsorship jobs in New York?
Migrate Mate is a job board built specifically for international candidates seeking visa sponsorship in the United States. You can filter directly for project accountant roles in New York to see employers with active openings and known sponsorship histories. This saves time compared to sifting through general job postings where sponsorship status is unclear. Migrate Mate focuses exclusively on roles where sponsorship is a realistic possibility, making it a practical starting point for your search.
Are there any New York-specific considerations for project accountants seeking sponsorship?
New York's prevailing wage requirements under H-1B rules are among the highest in the country, reflecting the state's elevated cost of living, particularly in New York City. Employers must certify that sponsored project accountants are paid at least the Department of Labor's prevailing wage for the role and location. New York also has a strong pipeline of internationally educated accounting graduates from schools like NYU, Fordham, and Baruch College, which means competition for sponsored roles in the city can be meaningful.
What is the prevailing wage for sponsored project accountant jobs in New York?
U.S. employers sponsoring a visa must pay at least the prevailing wage, which is what workers in the same role, area, and experience level typically earn. The Department of Labor sets this rate to make sure companies aren't hiring foreign workers simply because they'd accept lower pay than a U.S. worker. It varies by job title, location, and experience. You can look up current prevailing wage rates for any occupation and location using the OFLC Wage Search page.
