Headquartered in New York and Los Angeles and backed by Horizon Media, we connect creativity and media to drive real business impact. Our recipe for success? We hire talented people from different perspectives (that’s where you come in), challenge them, and give them every opportunity to grow.
ROLE AND RESPONSIBILITIES
What You’ll Do:
Our strategy team uncovers the interesting connections across culture, content, creators, and commerce, that help brands succeed in a social-first world. We’re looking for a deeply curious and culturally switched-on strategic leader with deep social-first and creator experience to join our team as a Strategy Director.
You’ll provide dedicated strategic leadership across a portfolio of high-profile clients, shaping social and creator-led strategies that push beyond category norms and unlock new ways for brands to win. You’ll work closely with senior clients and internal leaders to guide strategic direction, elevate creative output, and ensure our work consistently raises the bar. You’ll also play a key role in new business, agency thought leadership, and the continued evolution of Blue Hour’s work. The Strategy Director reports into our Head of Strategy.
Strategy
- Lead the development of social-first and creator-led strategies that push boundaries, inspire our creative and influencer teams, and drive meaningful business results.
- Drive and oversee high-quality briefs, briefings, strategic thinking, and insights across projects, raising the bar for the entire strategy team.
- Identify human, cultural, and social truths that unlock fresh, ownable creative territories for brands and the kinds of ‘social glitches’ that help brands show up in group chats, media, and the feed.
- Become the first call clients want to make to understand and simplify the constant shifts across culture, social platforms, the creator economy, and marketing.
- Set the strategic narrative for our work and lead client presentations with confidence and clarity.
- Partner closely with creative and account leads to shape breakthrough ideas and ensure work ladders back to a clear strategic POV.
- Translate campaign performance into actionable learnings, closing the loop on what worked, why it worked, and how to improve next time.
- Contribute to the development of Blue Hour frameworks, methodologies, and ways of working.
Leadership & Thought Leadership
- Lead and shape high-impact new business pitches with exceptional strategic stories and provocative social-first POVs that helps us win.
- Help advance Blue Hour’s point of view, and develop strategic narratives, frameworks, and materials that differentiate Blue Hour in the market.
- Represent the agency as a strategic voice with clients, partners, and the broader industry.
- Mentor and coach up strategists and cross-functional teams by providing guidance, feedback, and development support.
- Help shape the role of strategy within the agency and improve cross-functional collaboration across strategy, creative, and account teams.
- Support strategic account planning and organic growth by identifying new opportunities for impact and quickly earning the trust of senior clients.
WHO YOU ARE
- You live and breathe social, culture, and creators, and have a sharp POV on where social-first marketing is headed.
- You’re a strategic leader who can inspire teams, challenge thinking, and raise the quality of work.
- You’re deeply curious about communities, social subcultures, rabbit holes, and how trends emerge.
- You ‘get’ each social platform and have a unique POV on how brands show up.
- You’re a compelling storyteller who can turn complex insights into clear narratives, and have been complimented unironically for your deck making abilities.
- You connect dots in unexpected ways and push beyond safe, formulaic thinking.
- You thrive in a collaborative, fast-paced environment and can confidently influence others.
- Account leads and creative directors say you’re their favorite co-worker.
ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENTS
- Significant experience leading social-first and creator-led strategy at an agency or brand.
- A portfolio or work samples with strategy work that drove breakthrough creative.
- Proven experience presenting to and advising senior clients.
- Fluency in research, insights development, and performance analysis.

Which companies sponsor visas for strategy directors in New York?
Large consulting firms including McKinsey, Boston Consulting Group, and Bain regularly sponsor strategy directors in New York. Financial institutions like Goldman Sachs, Citigroup, and JPMorgan Chase also file H-1B visa petitions for senior strategy roles. Technology companies with New York offices, including Google and Amazon, and media conglomerates such as NBCUniversal and Condé Nast round out the field of active sponsors.
Which visa types are most common for strategy director roles in New York?
The H-1B is the most common visa for strategy directors in New York, as the role typically qualifies as a specialty occupation requiring a bachelor's degree or higher in business, economics, or a related field. Candidates with extraordinary recognition in strategic leadership may qualify for the O-1A. Intracompany transferees moving into a strategy director role from an overseas office of the same employer can use the L-1A visa.
Which cities in New York have the most strategy director sponsorship jobs?
New York City accounts for the overwhelming majority of strategy director sponsorship positions in the state, particularly in Manhattan neighborhoods like Midtown, the Financial District, and Hudson Yards. Albany sees occasional demand from state government contractors and healthcare systems. Buffalo and Rochester have smaller but growing strategy hiring activity tied to manufacturing and regional healthcare networks, though sponsorship at the director level is less common outside the city.
How to find strategy director visa sponsorship jobs in New York?
Migrate Mate filters job listings specifically by visa sponsorship availability, making it straightforward to identify strategy director roles in New York where employers have indicated willingness to sponsor. Because director-level positions are often filled through targeted searches rather than broad postings, filtering by role seniority and state on Migrate Mate helps surface the most relevant active openings from verified sponsoring employers in New York.
Are there state-specific considerations for strategy director visa sponsorship in New York?
New York City's high cost of living means the Department of Labor's prevailing wage determinations for strategy director roles are among the highest in the country, which employers must meet when filing a Labor Condition Application. New York's dense concentration of Ivy League and top business school alumni networks, particularly from Columbia and NYU Stern, creates a competitive candidate pool. Employers in regulated industries like finance and healthcare may also require additional compliance vetting before initiating sponsorship.
What is the prevailing wage for sponsored strategy director jobs in New York?
U.S. employers sponsoring a visa must pay at least the prevailing wage, which is what workers in the same role, area, and experience level typically earn. The Department of Labor sets this rate to make sure companies aren't hiring foreign workers simply because they'd accept lower pay than a U.S. worker. It varies by job title, location, and experience. You can look up current prevailing wage rates for any occupation and location using the OFLC Wage Search page.
