Companies with established track records of sponsoring product support engineers in North Carolina include Cisco Systems and Lenovo in the Research Triangle, IBM in Research Triangle Park, and Red Hat in Durham. Charlotte-based financial technology firms and healthcare technology companies also sponsor this role. These employers have dedicated immigration programs and regularly file H-1B visa petitions for technical support engineering positions.
Which visa types are most common for product support engineer roles in North Carolina?
The H-1B is the most common visa category for product support engineers in North Carolina, as the role typically qualifies as a specialty occupation requiring a bachelor's degree in computer science, information systems, or a related technical field. Candidates already holding TN visa status (Canadians and Mexicans in qualifying engineering roles) or L-1 visa intracompany transferees at multinational employers like Cisco or IBM may also hold this role.

Migrate Mate is specifically built for this search. You can filter by state and role to surface product support engineer positions in North Carolina where employers have indicated visa sponsorship willingness. This saves significant time compared to manually reviewing job postings. The Research Triangle and Charlotte are worth prioritizing, as both markets have a higher concentration of enterprise tech employers who regularly sponsor international engineers.
Which cities in North Carolina have the most product support engineer sponsorship jobs?
Raleigh and Durham, anchored by Research Triangle Park, account for the largest share of product support engineer sponsorship jobs in North Carolina. RTP hosts North American headquarters and major engineering offices for networking and enterprise software companies. Charlotte is the secondary market, driven by fintech and managed services firms. Smaller pockets of activity exist near Morrisville and Cary, both suburbs within the Triangle corridor.
Are there any North Carolina-specific factors that affect visa sponsorship for product support engineers?
North Carolina's concentration of universities, including NC State, UNC Chapel Hill, and Duke, creates a strong pipeline of OPT-eligible international graduates who often transition into product support engineering roles with local employers. Companies in Research Triangle Park are experienced with H-1B sponsorship processes, which can make initial conversations with HR teams more straightforward than with employers in less tech-dense markets. Prevailing wage requirements still apply and are determined by the Department of Labor based on the specific work location within the state.
What is the prevailing wage for sponsored product support engineer jobs in North Carolina?
U.S. employers sponsoring a visa must pay at least the prevailing wage, which is what workers in the same role, area, and experience level typically earn. The Department of Labor sets this rate to make sure companies aren't hiring foreign workers simply because they'd accept lower pay than a U.S. worker. It varies by job title, location, and experience. You can look up current prevailing wage rates for any occupation and location using the OFLC Wage Search page.
