The J-1 visa Exchange Visitor visa is widely used for international teachers entering K-12 classrooms through cultural exchange programs. Some tribal school districts and universities also sponsor H-1B petitions for qualified educators in high-need subject areas.
Which cities in North Dakota have the most teaching sponsorship jobs?
Fargo has the highest concentration of opportunities, driven by Fargo Public Schools and proximity to North Dakota State University. Bismarck and Grand Forks follow, with Bismarck Public Schools and the University of North Dakota both historically hiring internationally. U.S. employers sponsoring a visa must pay at least the prevailing wage, which is what workers in the same role, area, and experience level typically earn. The Department of Labor sets this rate to make sure companies aren't hiring foreign workers simply because they'd accept lower pay than a U.S. worker. It varies by job title, location, and experience. You can look up current prevailing wage rates for any occupation and location using the OFLC Wage Search page.
