Which companies sponsor visas for backend engineers in Ohio?
Several large Ohio employers have consistent H-1B sponsorship histories for backend engineers. JPMorgan Chase in Columbus, Nationwide Insurance, and Huntington National Bank appear regularly in DOL disclosure data for software and engineering roles. Healthcare technology firms like Aultcare and large consulting firms with Ohio offices, including Accenture and Cognizant, also sponsor backend engineers at meaningful volume.
Which visa types are most common for backend engineer roles in Ohio?
The H-1B is the most common visa for backend engineers in Ohio, as software development roles typically satisfy the specialty occupation requirement given the degree-level technical skills involved. L-1B visas apply when an engineer transfers from an overseas office of the same employer. Candidates from Australia may be eligible for the E-3 visa, and Canadian and Mexican nationals may qualify under the TN visa category.
Which cities in Ohio have the most backend engineer sponsorship jobs?
Columbus accounts for the largest share of backend engineer sponsorship activity in Ohio, driven by its finance, insurance, and growing startup ecosystem. Cleveland follows, with demand concentrated in healthcare IT and financial services. Cincinnati is a secondary market with notable enterprise software and consumer goods technology employers. Dublin and Westerville, both Columbus suburbs, also host significant tech operations for companies like Cardinal Health and Nationwide.
How to find backend engineer visa sponsorship jobs in Ohio?
Migrate Mate filters job listings specifically by visa sponsorship availability, so you can search backend engineer roles in Ohio without sifting through positions that don't offer sponsorship. The platform is built for international candidates, meaning listings are screened for sponsorship intent rather than relying on keyword guessing. Searching by Ohio on Migrate Mate surfaces roles across Columbus, Cleveland, and Cincinnati from employers with active sponsorship records.
Are there any Ohio-specific considerations for backend engineers seeking visa sponsorship?
Ohio's prevailing wage determinations for backend engineers are generally lower than coastal markets like San Francisco or New York, which can affect the wage level an employer must certify on a Labor Condition Application. Ohio State University and Case Western Reserve produce a pipeline of international graduate students on F-1 OPT, making Ohio employers relatively familiar with OPT-to-H-1B transitions. The state's concentration in finance and healthcare IT means backend roles often require experience with regulated data environments.
What is the prevailing wage for sponsored backend engineer jobs in Ohio?
U.S. employers sponsoring a visa must pay at least the prevailing wage, which is what workers in the same role, area, and experience level typically earn. The Department of Labor sets this rate to make sure companies aren't hiring foreign workers simply because they'd accept lower pay than a U.S. worker. It varies by job title, location, and experience. You can look up current prevailing wage rates for any occupation and location using the OFLC Wage Search page.
