Which finance companies in Ohio sponsor F-1 OPT visas?
Several large financial institutions based in Ohio have histories of hiring F-1 OPT students. KeyCorp and Fifth Third Bank, both headquartered in Ohio, regularly recruit for analyst and finance roles open to OPT candidates. JPMorgan Chase has significant operations in Columbus and Cleveland. Nationwide Insurance and American Financial Group also hire for finance positions in Ohio. Sponsorship availability varies by role, team, and hiring cycle, so confirming OPT acceptance during the application process is important.
Which cities in Ohio have the most finance F-1 OPT sponsorship jobs?
Columbus is Ohio's largest finance hiring hub, home to JPMorgan Chase's major operations center, Nationwide Insurance, and a growing fintech presence. Cleveland follows closely, with KeyCorp headquartered there alongside a cluster of regional banks and asset management firms. Cincinnati is the third major market, anchored by Fifth Third Bank and American Financial Group. Smaller markets like Dayton and Akron have fewer openings but occasionally list OPT-eligible finance roles.
What types of finance roles typically qualify for F-1 OPT sponsorship in Ohio?
Roles that most commonly appear as OPT-eligible in Ohio's finance sector include financial analyst, credit analyst, risk analyst, accounting associate, investment operations analyst, and compliance analyst positions. These roles generally require a degree in finance, accounting, economics, or a related quantitative field, which aligns with F-1 OPT's requirement that employment be directly related to your major. Roles that are more generalist or management-focused without a degree requirement in a specific field are less likely to qualify.
How do I find finance F-1 OPT sponsorship jobs in Ohio?
Migrate Mate is built specifically for international students and filters job listings by visa type, including F-1 OPT, and by industry and state. Searching for finance roles in Ohio on Migrate Mate surfaces employers who have indicated willingness to sponsor or accept OPT candidates, saving you from filtering through listings that don't apply to your situation. Focusing your search on Columbus, Cleveland, and Cincinnati will return the highest volume of relevant finance openings in Ohio.
Are there any Ohio-specific considerations for F-1 OPT finance students?
Ohio's large concentration of regional banks and insurance companies means many hiring managers are familiar with OPT work authorization, which can reduce friction compared to states where international hiring is less common. However, F-1 OPT has a strict 90-day unemployment limit, so timing your job search before your OPT start date is important. Finance students with STEM-designated degrees, such as financial engineering or quantitative finance, may be eligible for the 24-month STEM OPT extension, significantly extending their work authorization period.
