Tips for Finding OPT Jobs in Ohio
Target Ohio's university research corridors
Ohio State, Case Western Reserve, and the University of Cincinnati all sit within larger innovation ecosystems. Employers clustered near these campuses actively hire OPT holders and are often familiar with the CPT and OPT authorization process.
Focus your search on cap-exempt and research institutions
Hospitals, nonprofits affiliated with universities, and government research labs in Ohio frequently hire OPT holders and may offer H-1B visa sponsorship through cap-exempt channels, giving you a more stable path beyond your OPT period.
Use STEM OPT extension if your degree qualifies
Many Ohio employers in engineering, life sciences, and data-heavy roles are accredited E-Verify employers, which is required for STEM OPT. Confirm E-Verify enrollment before applying so you know your extension eligibility upfront.
Search for OPT-friendly roles on Migrate Mate

Engage Columbus's growing tech and startup scene
Columbus has seen significant growth in fintech, logistics tech, and insurance technology. Startups and mid-size companies in these sectors often hire OPT holders for technical roles and can move faster through onboarding than large corporations.
Attend career fairs hosted by Ohio's Big Ten and research universities
On-campus recruiting events at Ohio State and similar institutions regularly attract employers who already understand F-1 OPT authorization timelines. These fairs are one of the most direct ways to connect with hiring managers comfortable with the process.
