Which construction companies sponsor F-1 OPT visas in Ohio?
Several large general contractors and engineering firms operating in Ohio have a track record of hiring F-1 OPT candidates, including Turner Construction, Gilbane Building Company, Messer Construction, and AECOM. Larger firms tend to have dedicated HR and immigration support, which makes OPT onboarding more straightforward. Smaller regional contractors may sponsor as well, though less consistently.
Which cities in Ohio have the most construction F-1 OPT sponsorship jobs?
Columbus leads Ohio for construction OPT opportunities, driven by ongoing commercial, healthcare, and infrastructure projects tied to its status as the state capital and a growing tech hub. Cleveland and Cincinnati follow closely, with active mixed-use development and industrial construction. Smaller markets like Dayton and Akron also generate demand, particularly for civil and infrastructure roles.
What types of construction roles typically qualify for F-1 OPT sponsorship?
Roles that align with degree programs in civil engineering, construction management, architecture, or structural engineering are the strongest fit for F-1 OPT in Ohio's construction sector. Common titles include project engineer, site engineer, estimator, BIM coordinator, and construction project manager. Positions requiring a direct connection to a technical degree carry the clearest OPT eligibility under STEM or standard OPT authorization.
How do I find construction F-1 OPT sponsorship jobs in Ohio?
Migrate Mate is built specifically for international students and filters jobs by visa type, making it straightforward to browse construction F-1 OPT sponsorship jobs in Ohio without sifting through listings that don't apply to your situation. You can filter by state, industry, and visa category to surface employers in Ohio's construction sector who are open to OPT candidates.
Are there any Ohio-specific or construction-specific considerations for F-1 OPT sponsorship?
Ohio does not impose state-level restrictions on F-1 OPT employment, but construction roles often require on-site work, which means your OPT employment must be tied to a specific, verifiable work location. STEM OPT extensions apply if your degree is in civil engineering, construction engineering, or a related STEM-designated field, giving you up to 36 months of total work authorization if your employer participates in E-Verify.
