Which companies sponsor visas for structural project engineers in Ohio?
Engineering and construction firms with established Ohio offices are the most consistent sponsors. AECOM, Jacobs, Thornton Tomasetti, Michael Baker International, and Terracon all have a track record of H-1B filings for structural engineering roles. Larger firms with dedicated HR and legal infrastructure are generally better positioned to manage the sponsorship process than smaller regional consultancies.
Which visa types are most common for structural project engineer roles in Ohio?
The H-1B is the most common visa for structural project engineers in Ohio, as the role typically requires a bachelor's degree or higher in civil or structural engineering, meeting the specialty occupation standard. Candidates from Australia may also qualify under the E-3 visa. Those with Canadian or Mexican citizenship can explore the TN visa, which covers engineers under USMCA. O-1 visas are possible for engineers with demonstrated exceptional achievement.
Which cities in Ohio have the most structural project engineer sponsorship jobs?
Columbus leads in volume due to its concentration of engineering firms, data center construction, and state infrastructure investment. Cleveland follows closely, supported by industrial facility projects and legacy infrastructure rehabilitation work. Cincinnati draws demand from commercial and mixed-use development activity. Smaller markets like Dayton and Akron have active opportunities tied to manufacturing plant and institutional building projects.
How to find structural project engineer visa sponsorship jobs in Ohio?
Migrate Mate filters job listings specifically for roles that include visa sponsorship, making it straightforward to find structural project engineer positions in Ohio without sorting through listings from employers who don't sponsor. You can filter by state and role type to see active openings from firms already set up to sponsor H-1B and other work visas. It's built for international candidates, so every listing is screened for sponsorship eligibility.
Are there state-specific factors that affect visa sponsorship for structural project engineers in Ohio?
Ohio does not have state-specific visa rules, but a few practical factors matter. Structural engineers in Ohio typically need a Professional Engineer (PE) license for senior roles, and some employers require it before or shortly after hiring. The Department of Labor's prevailing wage determinations for the Columbus and Cleveland metro areas set the wage floor employers must meet when filing H-1B Labor Condition Applications. University programs at Ohio State and Case Western Reserve also feed a pipeline of international graduates that many local firms are already familiar with sponsoring.
What is the prevailing wage for sponsored structural project engineer jobs in Ohio?
U.S. employers sponsoring a visa must pay at least the prevailing wage, which is what workers in the same role, area, and experience level typically earn. The Department of Labor sets this rate to make sure companies aren't hiring foreign workers simply because they'd accept lower pay than a U.S. worker. It varies by job title, location, and experience. You can look up current prevailing wage rates for any occupation and location using the OFLC Wage Search page.
