Which companies sponsor visas for engineering interns in Oregon?
Intel is one of the most active sponsors for engineering interns in Oregon, with a large campus in Hillsboro. Nike's Beaverton headquarters also hires engineering interns across product and operations teams. Smaller semiconductor and clean energy firms in the Portland metro area participate as well, though sponsorship availability varies by company size, intern program structure, and the specific engineering discipline involved.
Which visa types are most common for engineering intern roles in Oregon?
Most international engineering interns in Oregon work under F-1 Curricular Practical Training (CPT) or F-1 Optional Practical Training (OPT), which allow work authorization without requiring the employer to file a separate petition. J-1 intern and trainee visas are also used, particularly through exchange programs. H-1B sponsorship for intern-level roles is uncommon, as it requires a full-time specialty occupation and carries significant employer cost and administrative burden.
Which cities in Oregon have the most engineering intern sponsorship jobs?
Portland and the surrounding metro area, including Hillsboro and Beaverton, concentrate the majority of engineering intern opportunities in Oregon. Intel's Hillsboro campus alone generates substantial intern demand in semiconductor and electrical engineering. Corvallis sees activity tied to Oregon State University's co-op and internship pipelines, particularly in mechanical and computer engineering. Eugene is a smaller market but benefits from University of Oregon connections in software and materials engineering.
How to find engineering intern visa sponsorship jobs in Oregon?
Migrate Mate filters engineering intern roles in Oregon specifically by visa sponsorship status, saving you from sorting through listings that won't work for international candidates. Search by role and state to surface companies that have sponsored engineering interns before. Oregon's semiconductor and tech sectors generate consistent intern demand, so filtering by Portland metro and Hillsboro on Migrate Mate gives you the most relevant results for your search.
Are there state-specific considerations for engineering interns seeking sponsorship in Oregon?
Oregon's concentration in semiconductor manufacturing, athletic product engineering, and clean energy creates distinct demand for interns in electrical, mechanical, and environmental engineering disciplines. Oregon State University and University of Oregon both have established employer pipelines that can ease initial connections with sponsoring companies. Interns on CPT or OPT should confirm their program's authorization requirements with their Designated School Official before accepting a role, as individual circumstances affect eligibility.
What is the prevailing wage for sponsored engineering intern jobs in Oregon?
U.S. employers sponsoring a visa must pay at least the prevailing wage, which is what workers in the same role, area, and experience level typically earn. The Department of Labor sets this rate to make sure companies aren't hiring foreign workers simply because they'd accept lower pay than a U.S. worker. It varies by job title, location, and experience. You can look up current prevailing wage rates for any occupation and location using the OFLC Wage Search page.
