Which companies sponsor visas for mechanics in Oregon?
Daimler Trucks North America, headquartered in Portland, is among the more prominent Oregon employers with international hiring capacity for skilled mechanics. Large dealership groups, fleet maintenance contractors, and industrial equipment operators across the Portland metro and Willamette Valley have also sponsored mechanics, particularly for diesel and heavy equipment roles where qualified candidates are in short supply.
Which visa types are most common for mechanic roles in Oregon?
The H-2B temporary nonimmigrant visa is one pathway for mechanics when employers can demonstrate a shortage of available U.S. workers, though it carries an annual cap and requires DOL certification. The H-1B generally requires a specialty occupation tied to a bachelor's degree, which can be difficult to establish for most mechanic roles. TN status is available to Canadian and Mexican citizens in certain qualified technician categories.
Which cities in Oregon have the most mechanic sponsorship jobs?
Portland and its surrounding metro area, including Beaverton and Hillsboro, account for the largest concentration of mechanic sponsorship opportunities in Oregon, driven by Daimler Trucks, a dense dealership network, and industrial facilities. Salem and Eugene also generate consistent demand, particularly from agricultural equipment servicing, municipal fleet maintenance, and regional transportation companies operating along the I-5 corridor.
How to find mechanic visa sponsorship jobs in Oregon?
Migrate Mate is built specifically to surface mechanic roles in Oregon where employers are open to visa sponsorship, filtering out positions that won't consider international candidates. Because sponsorship willingness isn't always stated in a standard job posting, using Migrate Mate saves significant time by connecting you directly to Oregon mechanic opportunities with confirmed or likely sponsorship, including roles in Portland, Salem, and Eugene.
Are there any Oregon-specific considerations for mechanics seeking visa sponsorship?
Oregon's Department of Labor sets prevailing wage benchmarks that employers must meet when sponsoring foreign workers, and these standards apply at the county level, so wages can differ between Portland metro positions and rural Oregon roles. Oregon's strong agricultural sector also creates year-round demand for equipment mechanics in the Willamette Valley, which can influence the types of sponsorship filings employers pursue compared to purely urban automotive markets.
What is the prevailing wage for sponsored mechanic jobs in Oregon?
U.S. employers sponsoring a visa must pay at least the prevailing wage, which is what workers in the same role, area, and experience level typically earn. The Department of Labor sets this rate to make sure companies aren't hiring foreign workers simply because they'd accept lower pay than a U.S. worker. It varies by job title, location, and experience. You can look up current prevailing wage rates for any occupation and location using the OFLC Wage Search page.
