Which companies sponsor visas for software systems engineers in Oregon?
Intel is Oregon's largest sponsor of software systems engineers, with substantial operations in Hillsboro filing hundreds of H-1B petitions annually. Other active sponsors include Nike, Daimler Trucks North America, Precision Castparts, and various Portland-based software firms. Amazon and Salesforce also maintain Oregon offices with documented sponsorship history for engineering roles. DOL disclosure data is the most reliable source for verifying a specific employer's sponsorship activity.
Which visa types are most common for software systems engineer roles in Oregon?
The H-1B is the most common visa for software systems engineers in Oregon, covering roles that require a bachelor's degree or higher in computer science, software engineering, or a related specialty field. Employers with existing sponsorship programs may also support L-1B transfers for engineers moving from an affiliated foreign office. Candidates with exceptional records in systems engineering may qualify for the O-1A, though that standard requires substantial documentation of achievement.
Which cities in Oregon have the most software systems engineer sponsorship jobs?
Portland and the surrounding metro area account for the majority of software systems engineer sponsorship opportunities in Oregon, concentrated in the Silicon Forest corridor stretching from Beaverton to Hillsboro. Intel's Hillsboro campus alone represents a significant share of statewide engineering visa filings. Eugene has a smaller but active tech presence connected to the University of Oregon, and Bend is an emerging hub for remote-friendly software companies with occasional sponsorship roles.
How to find software systems engineer visa sponsorship jobs in Oregon?
Migrate Mate lists software systems engineer roles in Oregon filtered specifically for visa sponsorship, so you can search without sorting through employers who won't sponsor. Because Oregon's sponsorship activity is concentrated among a smaller set of well-known companies like Intel and Nike alongside mid-size firms, filtering by verified sponsors saves significant time. Checking Migrate Mate regularly is practical given that new sponsored positions in this role appear as project cycles and fiscal quarters shift.
Are there any Oregon-specific considerations for software systems engineers seeking sponsorship?
Oregon's prevailing wage requirements under the H-1B program reflect the Silicon Forest's competitive compensation environment, particularly in the Hillsboro-Portland metropolitan area, where DOL wage levels for systems engineering roles are benchmarked against Intel and comparable employers. Oregon State University and the University of Oregon produce engineering graduates who enter the local talent pipeline, meaning some employers have established OPT-to-H-1B pathways. Oregon has no state income tax, which is a practical consideration when evaluating total compensation during offer negotiations.
What is the prevailing wage for sponsored software systems engineer jobs in Oregon?
U.S. employers sponsoring a visa must pay at least the prevailing wage, which is what workers in the same role, area, and experience level typically earn. The Department of Labor sets this rate to make sure companies aren't hiring foreign workers simply because they'd accept lower pay than a U.S. worker. It varies by job title, location, and experience. You can look up current prevailing wage rates for any occupation and location using the OFLC Wage Search page.
