Which companies in Oregon sponsor visas for system administrators?
Intel's campus in Hillsboro is one of Oregon's most active H-1B sponsors for infrastructure roles. Other consistent sponsors include Nike, Providence Health and Services, Oregon Health and Science University, and Daimler Trucks North America. Technology consulting firms and managed service providers operating out of the Portland metro area also file H-1B petitions for system administrator positions with some regularity.
Which visa types are most common for system administrator roles in Oregon?
The H-1B is the most common visa for system administrator positions in Oregon, provided the role meets the specialty occupation standard, meaning a bachelor's degree in computer science, information systems, or a related field is typically required. TN status is available to Canadian and Mexican nationals in qualifying IT roles. Australians may qualify for the E-3. L-1B transfers apply when moving within a multinational company into a specialized knowledge position.
Which cities in Oregon have the most system administrator sponsorship jobs?
Portland accounts for the largest share of system administrator sponsorship activity in Oregon, driven by its concentration of healthcare systems, financial institutions, and technology employers. Hillsboro, part of the Portland metro area, adds significant volume through Intel's semiconductor operations. Beaverton sees activity through Nike's corporate headquarters. Eugene and Corvallis have smaller markets but generate openings through the University of Oregon and Oregon State University.
How to find system administrator visa sponsorship jobs in Oregon?
Migrate Mate filters system administrator job listings specifically by visa sponsorship status, so you can browse Oregon openings without sorting through roles that don't offer sponsorship. The platform covers positions across the Portland metro, Hillsboro, and other Oregon cities. Filtering by role and state helps you identify which employers are actively hiring international candidates for system administrator positions rather than applying broadly and waiting to ask about sponsorship later.
Are there any Oregon-specific considerations for system administrator visa sponsorship?
Oregon's prevailing wage requirements for H-1B positions are determined by the Department of Labor based on the specific metro area, so wages required in the Portland-Hillsboro-Vancouver metro reflect a higher cost market than rural Oregon counties. Healthcare IT roles, particularly at Providence and OHSU, often require compliance clearances alongside visa processing. Oregon's research institutions sometimes sponsor through cap-exempt H-1B pathways, which are not subject to the annual lottery.
What is the prevailing wage for sponsored system administrator jobs in Oregon?
U.S. employers sponsoring a visa must pay at least the prevailing wage, which is what workers in the same role, area, and experience level typically earn. The Department of Labor sets this rate to make sure companies aren't hiring foreign workers simply because they'd accept lower pay than a U.S. worker. It varies by job title, location, and experience. You can look up current prevailing wage rates for any occupation and location using the OFLC Wage Search page.
