Which companies in Pennsylvania sponsor visas for support engineers?
Several large employers in Pennsylvania have documented histories of sponsoring work visas for support engineer roles. These include Unisys, Conduent, SAP America, Siemens Healthineers, and IBM, all of which have Pennsylvania operations. Healthcare IT employers like UPMC and Penn Medicine also hire support engineers and have sponsored H-1B petitions through publicly available Department of Labor disclosure data.
Which visa types are most commonly used for support engineer roles in Pennsylvania?
The H-1B is the most common visa category for support engineer positions in Pennsylvania, provided the role requires a bachelor's degree in a specific technical field such as computer science, information systems, or engineering. Candidates already holding TN status (Canadians and Mexicans in qualifying occupations) or L-1 transferees within multinational firms also fill support engineer roles. OPT and STEM OPT extensions are frequently used as a bridge while employers process H-1B sponsorship.
How to find support engineer visa sponsorship jobs in Pennsylvania?
Migrate Mate filters job listings specifically by visa sponsorship status, making it straightforward to search for support engineer roles in Pennsylvania without sifting through positions that don't offer sponsorship. You can filter by state and role type to see active openings from employers who have indicated willingness to sponsor. Cross-referencing listings with Department of Labor LCA disclosure data can also help confirm an employer's sponsorship history for technical support positions.
Which cities in Pennsylvania have the most support engineer sponsorship jobs?
Philadelphia accounts for the largest share of support engineer sponsorship activity in Pennsylvania, driven by its concentration of financial services technology firms, healthcare systems, and enterprise software companies. Pittsburgh has grown steadily as a tech hiring hub, particularly around robotics, AI, and cloud infrastructure employers. Malvern and King of Prussia, along with the broader Philadelphia suburbs, also host significant corporate technology operations from companies like Vanguard and Siemens that hire support engineers.
Are there any Pennsylvania-specific considerations for support engineers seeking visa sponsorship?
Pennsylvania has a notable university pipeline feeding support engineer talent through institutions like Carnegie Mellon University, Penn State, Drexel University, and Temple University, which means employers in the state are accustomed to hiring international graduates on OPT. The state's strong presence in healthcare IT introduces a niche demand for support engineers with domain knowledge in clinical systems and EHR platforms, which can strengthen a sponsorship case by demonstrating specialized skills that align with H-1B specialty occupation criteria.
What is the prevailing wage for sponsored support engineer jobs in Pennsylvania?
U.S. employers sponsoring a visa must pay at least the prevailing wage, which is what workers in the same role, area, and experience level typically earn. The Department of Labor sets this rate to make sure companies aren't hiring foreign workers simply because they'd accept lower pay than a U.S. worker. It varies by job title, location, and experience. You can look up current prevailing wage rates for any occupation and location using the OFLC Wage Search page.
