Which companies sponsor visas for support engineers in Massachusetts?
Established tech employers in Massachusetts with a history of sponsoring support engineers include Akamai Technologies, HubSpot, Toast, Wayfair, Veeva Systems, and Klaviyo. Larger enterprise software companies headquartered or with major offices in the Boston area, such as PTC and Rapid7, also file H-1B visa petitions for support engineering roles. Sponsorship availability varies by team, headcount, and hiring cycle, so confirming directly with employers is advisable.
Which visa types are most common for support engineer roles in Massachusetts?
The H-1B is the most common visa category for support engineers in Massachusetts, provided the role qualifies as a specialty occupation requiring at least a bachelor's degree in a directly related technical field. Candidates already authorized under OPT or STEM OPT are frequently hired before transitioning to H-1B sponsorship. The O-1A is an option for support engineers with documented exceptional expertise, though it is less common at this career level.
Which cities in Massachusetts have the most support engineer sponsorship jobs?
Boston and Cambridge account for the largest share of support engineer sponsorship opportunities in Massachusetts, driven by their concentration of SaaS companies, cybersecurity firms, and life sciences technology vendors. Waltham and Burlington along the Route 128 corridor are secondary hubs, hosting regional offices of companies like Akamai and PTC. Somerville and the broader Greater Boston metro also contribute meaningfully to the overall volume of posted roles.
How to find support engineer visa sponsorship jobs in Massachusetts?
Migrate Mate filters job listings specifically by visa sponsorship availability, making it straightforward to browse support engineer roles in Massachusetts without sorting through positions that won't consider international candidates. You can narrow results by location and role type to focus on Boston, Cambridge, or the Route 128 corridor. Because sponsorship status can change quickly, checking Migrate Mate regularly gives you the most current picture of which Massachusetts employers are actively hiring.
Are there state-specific considerations for support engineers seeking sponsorship in Massachusetts?
Massachusetts employers filing H-1B petitions for support engineers must meet the Department of Labor's prevailing wage requirements, which reflect the state's higher cost of living and competitive tech market. The Boston metro consistently records higher prevailing wages for technical roles than the national average, which factors into whether smaller companies pursue sponsorship. Many Massachusetts employers also recruit through partnerships with local universities like MIT, Northeastern, and Boston University, giving OPT candidates a practical entry point.
What is the prevailing wage for sponsored support engineer jobs in Massachusetts?
U.S. employers sponsoring a visa must pay at least the prevailing wage, which is what workers in the same role, area, and experience level typically earn. The Department of Labor sets this rate to make sure companies aren't hiring foreign workers simply because they'd accept lower pay than a U.S. worker. It varies by job title, location, and experience. You can look up current prevailing wage rates for any occupation and location using the OFLC Wage Search page.
